f-ami' , V ' u15x A X ' L 1 1 . l I BTERLIN G. On May 211 d we had our third animal trip to lndianola. The track squad left at 6:30 a. m. under the care of Coach Van Liew and Watsciii Metcalf. The main body of the school boarded the special train at the Rock Island cross- ing at 11 145. As we were speeding away from the city of certaintics lunches were eaten and everything was gay. West and North followed on a. separate train. The meet started promptly at 2 o'clock and every one enjoyed it from beginning to end, although we were not as successful on the track as we might have wished for. After the meet the schools scattered about the campus of the college for pic- nic suppers. Medals' were awarded in the evening at an enthusiastic meeting held in the Hopper Gymnasium. Speeches were forced from Captain Dow Byers and from John Evans, Weslz High's leader. The trip home was a pleasant close to a most successful and happy day. We arrived ,in the city about 9 :45 p. rn. The Des Moines College quartettc gave an enjoyable recital on May 14. It was one of the best we have had this year and we hope that next year the school may have another visit from the same organization. 5? P26 244 The first anniversary of our moving into this building was celebrated Friday, May 16. At 9:30 in the morning the Seniors with the help ef Miss Hathaway gave a delightful entertainment pre- senting a festival of ivy planting. Ivy sent from Harvard University by Vin- cent Starzingcr, '05, was planted at Various places about the grounds. ln SPANGLER. reward for the splendid program of the morning Miss Goodrell allowed the Seniors to ask for what they wanted. They asked for a holiday for the entire school and it was granted, but with the understanding that everyone was to come back in the evening. The Quill statt assisted by other members of the Senior class under the direction of Miss Patterson, furnished the program for the evening. It was in every way very was well pre- being the most our new stage. however, were successful. The farce sented, the stage setting beautiful seen as yet on The Squashtown scenes, the hit of the evening. Everyone left at the close with a vivid recollection of VVillie Toodles and his Ma and the various other characters of the time with whom they had made acquaintance. The following is the entire program for the day: MORNING SPRING' FESTIVAL. Time-9 :45 Friday morning, May 16. Setting-Steps to west entrance and school grounds. Theme-Planting of ivy.
