FGREWORD In days of old, pirates roamed the seven seas, gay, colorful men, dashing, daring, gallant men, men who fought for the spoils of battle, men who fought for the sheer sport of fighting, men who lived and died with equal recklessness. These hardy men had weaponse-the accepted weapons of their day. A cutlass, a pistol, a poniard provided them with protection sufficient for any occasion that might arise, and a ship of sturdy oaken beams, flying the dread skull and cross-bones, carried them whither they might go. They fought fearlessly and skillfully against overwhelming odds, but because they violated the rules of honest endeavor, were doomed to ex- tinction. This, too, is a bold age, an age of glorious adventure and of bitter struggle. Our new heroes of noble purpose are ventur- ing forth to make that greatest conquesteefreedom for all the peoples of the world from this time forth. ik' if CONTENTS ADMINISTRATION ACTIVITIES CLASSES ATHLETICS 3

WHICH WE ERVE Paul W. Peterson, SpCWJ 3fc, whose personal charm and untiring efforts as our advisor during the two years preceding his entry into the Navy, have made him an enduring friend of the Class of 1944. The Seniors have been deeply moved by the absence of many of their classmates now in the Armed Forces. These boys have contributed much to the life of East High School Now they are prepared to give their all for a greater cause. We bade farewell not sorrow fully, only regretfully. Others, who have not yet laid down their books and pencils, will follow soon We are justly proud of every one.
