SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS On a bright September morning in 1939 an eager crowd of freshmen swarmed in the doors of the East High Annex. VVith poorly concealed excitement we stumbled through the corridors in search of homerooms. Our fears of new teachers were soon allayed when we found Mr. Harris and his staff of instructors kind and helpful. Many resolutions were made that week to study hard and to show those teachers what we could do. And remember those two or three assemblies at the main building? How thrilled we were to become a part of East High School proper for one hour. It wasn't long before the newness began to wear off. The glimpses we had had of life at the main building made us eager to be promoted to higher rank. Our sophomore year was soon upon us, and again we went through the process of losing ourselves in strange halls. The assemblies on Friday caused that day to become the most important of the week. VVe organized our class, chose advisors, and then began to plan for our senior year. In 1941 we took the next step toward our goalg We were juniors. Vile began to participate more in student government activities and to become affiliated with various clubs. VVe knew quite a few seniors and most of the faculty. How superior we felt toward the sophomores 14

and freshmen! We had completely forgotten how green we had feltAa few years before. We knew a lot, too. At least we thought we did. Then suddenly we were seniors who found ourselves caught up in a mad whirl of activity. Besides accepting many responsibilities inside school and out, we began to enjoy life and to have more good times, much to the detriment of our school work. Wiar work, also, made demands on our time, and the things we did had to be measured by their usefulness to us in relation to the war effort. Now June, 1943, is in the offing. Humbly we realize that one door of our lives is closing and another is opening. A new life awaits us. VVith high hope and good faith we go forth with knowledge to use, a vision to guide us, and a memory of a brief but happy sojourn at East High School.
