Zin jllllnzmnriam ROY E. DAVEY On November 1, 1938, our log recorded the passing of Roy E. Davey. With the same stroke ofthe pen and at the same time it also recorded a great loss to the good ship East High. Our scribe daily h welcomed the new day's blank page and had entered the day's account and osed the book withthe feeling of satis- faction that another day had passed leaving only something to the advantage of our ship. But this day our scribe regrets his positio,n'and slowly writes ofthe death of a noble oHicer. Only as the positions and circumstances, 'which were occupied and met by him, again made their annual appearance on the ship's Calendar, did we realize his great importance in our ship's life. Time alone has taught us how to readjust ourselves and get along without this beloved. We miss him. A greater honor no man could hold than to be missed and remembered by all who knew him. 4

kk 4,. .1 . OF' XVILLIAMIC. WOLGAST WE HONOR OUR CAPTAIN September 1938 was the dawn of a new era in the seasoned life of the S.S. East High School. Our beloved Alma Mater found herself in new though not untried hands. Our spray-washed helm no longer felt the touch of those hands which had steered her safely through storm and calm for many long years of faithful service. Uncertain, the Crew watched with eyes which demanded much and greatly feared lest their new captain should not meet such strict standards. But oh, how groundless those fears were! Before the first month upon the high seas had passed, the genial smile of the Skipper had become a familiar sight upon the decks. Soon we found to our intense satisfaction that strong hands steered our storm-tossed Vessel to its destination. And so we wish to you, Mr. Wolgast, the best of luck as Skipper of East High School. As a token of our good will, we, the 1939 Crew, dedicate this, our HOrient, to you. 3
