.I -XNUARY CLASS OFFICERS DUNN, P!'f'A'Ilfz'III lflifl n, 7il'r'tl,f1l7'l'f Rui-'SSI-,R, SfrrrI11l'y li-xku, 1'lin'-1'1'r,i'l'1l1'rlI ,fl , HISTORY 0F THE JANUARY CRE Freshmen l That was the name given to us on that January morning when we went through the process of getting settled in our higher chairs of learning. lt was not long before we found out that orientation had nothing to do with Tong Vlvars. and that this topsy-turvy world had a way of righting itself. Such strange things happened to the class of -lanuary 1939! No sooner had we learned the rules and regulations of the Annex than a drastic change took place in our orderly lives. Because of a large class entering the Annex in September we were thrown to our fate a half a year sooner than we had expected. VVe were pioneers all over again in the spacious Main huildingf, Like everything else, the change soon hecame more like English and less like Greek to us, and we were shouting for more worlds to conquer. All ofa sudden we became upper-classmen with that know-it-all look in our eyes, llut that was part of our make-up even if it did get on everyone's nerves. Then came that final term. Vlve knew all the words to the Alma lVlater. Our desire to hecome proficient in our studies increased, and we struggled to cram everything we didn't know into the remaining few months. The class of January 1939 will always he grateful to Mrs. lirown and Mr. liacon for their untiring efforts in helping us to have a successful party and graduation. We had the honor to he the last January class to graduate from East High School. Graduation was a very joyful and solemn occasion for it meant that the world was shouting for us to conquer it. 7
