Secretary Weatherhog, Vice- President Southwiclc, President Van Kirk, Treasurer Kotzin. -= ' CLASS OF JUNE ’36 CLASS HISTORY Our life in E. H. S. was broken up—into four parts. We came, fully mismstructed in grammar school, some 240 strong to invade—or infest —the little red school hut on University Avenue. The fit was rather tight, but they squashed us in although the walls bulged and the floors sagged, and in the halls it was push—or be pushed A. B. Swift’s cubby-hole, on the second floor, stuffed with desks, records, and a sympathetic typist had depending from the ceiling a string of water-squirter pistols, making the place resemble an arsenal. It was A B. S.’s hobby, the G-man in him Before we new it, we had compared answers in the Annex for the last time we were sophomores. We now—some ol us—made the acquaintance of J Merrell, the man of boos, who seemed to wield power with just a twist of the wrist He struck us in the right spot, Then there was F C Watson who blushed so pleasingly pink; and the girls just adored his curls P J. S also impressed us with his dignity and won us. These mathematicians!1 Another notch, and we were juniors, deflated but rann’ to go Seniors no longer looked so high-hat, and frosh seemed babyish. Oh., with what facility we took the curves in the halls, and dashed downstairs! (Then someone wrote '— And Sudden Death ) Too soon, our shoulders were burdened with the responsibilities of seniors, literally, The Elders (See, it’s our Latin!) There were the elections, a bit of adversive electioneering to provide some spark, but our fast punning boy with brains, W. V. K , came through And there were the Regents, which came, saw and (sometimes) conquered. Thence, with the static crackling of Roy Davey’s radio as ac- companiment, we assembled the “Orient. Spliced in were the senior play tryouts, where hopes ma- terialized and others dissipated. But we all had our fun So it is with a certain sadness that we glance in retrospect; School traditions were made and broken. The April Frolics began in our frosh year Book rental came in Friends were made, groups formed, clubs frequented, teachers found friendly and not too annoying. All these and many more are now memories, which we shall treasure with all our hearts, which shall never recur to us without a pang of emotion, emotion that “resembles sorrow only as the mist resembles rain.
