No one incident has occurred perhaps which stands out above all else but the mere routine of the year has been sprinkled with a series of events quite apart from the usual. ' The Clarion was the lirst to show that the affairs of the world had come home to East High. Although facing a disastrous term owing to the increased cost of labor and materials, the board decided to continue a weekly paper as in previous years. From an eight-page publication of the fall, the Clarion grew to the sixteenspage Easter issue, the largest in the history of the paper with one exception. Athletics have felt the change. Several of the minor sports which formerly struggled for an existence have passed away. For them were substituted intra- mural games which allowed the participation of a larger number of the students. This latter move was largely made possible by the state physical training require- ment which demanded that all students receive some form of athletic training regularly. The major teams which have been put into the tield have been up to the East High standard. , The winter season brought a continuous line of social doings lasting late through the spring. A new feature of these was the inauguration of school parties managed by school organizations such as the German Club. The students on two occasions during the year showed their willingness to help procure any needed equipment, not furnished by the Board of Education. ln a remarkably short time, sufncient responses were made to Mr. VVilcox's call to warrant the purchase of enough magazines to furnish the needs of the school. A splendid Victrola was obtained through the support and efforts of the pupils. The military situation has not been overlooked. The Cadet Corps, at first rather weak, increased to a hundred strong, at length forming a nucleus for the state military work. The number of students now enrolled in the five companies drilling at the state requirement is close to tive hundred. Beside these to date six fellows have enlisted for active service in the country's behalf. This briefly tells what has been accomplished in East High School since last September. The members of the graduating class feel that their senior year has been one that will long have an important place in the annals of their Alma Mater. Page Eicven
