E 1 HO OFPR IN 2 Eleven years ago the doors of East High were first opened. Since that day our school has grown and developed as one of the outstanding schools of Memphis. Its characteristics of cooperation, dependability, friendliness and leader- ship are typical of the fine school it is. As each student enters East High, he is shown these qualities through our students and faculty. As he continues his education here the Mustang ideals become his own. After many years, as he goes on to his own life, he carries with him these qualities and standards which have been instilled in him with his fine education. Every student becomes a HOOFPRINT of this Mustang spirit. O Table if Qonfents O L Clagsfeb ........ 11. Ecjztures. . . U 111. Sports. . . 1.ct1IfUiti... V 12.0. T.C .... Dorothy Lee Dodd For the past ten years, Mrs. Dorothy Dodd has been one of East High's out- standing teachers. In the classroom she has instructed many of us in mathematics and bookkeeping as an inspiring teacher and an understanding friend. Most all of our athletic activities will find Mrs. Dodd seated in our stands, cheering loyal- ly for our Mustang team. The 1959 graduating class is especially indebted to Mrs. Dodd. She has been a sponsor of this class during their sophomore, junior, and senior years. She was an invaluable advisor for the junior-Senior Prom and also for the money- making projects during these past three years. Mrs. Dodd has taken a personal interest in each of her students and is always ready with a helping hand. So to this teacher, friend, and counselor, in sincere admiration, love, and gratitude, we dedicate our 1959 MUSTANG. Mr. East High V A Tackett A ' l MR. J. P. SNIDER, Principal tration MR. E. C. Only yesterday we were playing jump-rope and tag at recess. When junior High came with new teachers and new subjects, it still seemed as if we had a long way to go before we would be grown-up seniorsf' All through high school we continued to grow with East, we didn't realize it, for we were too busy with football, base- ball, and other school activities. Our heads became a little bigger each time we walked off with honors in Latin tournaments, math contests, or R.O.T.C. At last the glorious year arrived, and every moment was filled with something new and exciting. We were never too busy to bring more honors to East High. We studied hard for the Merit Scholarship Test and College Board Exams. Oh, the anxiety we endured while we waited to be accepted to the college of our choice! Our senior year was not all work by any means. I donlt think we will ever forget the senior blasts. Our last three months were the biggest of all. There was the senior play, to outsiders it was just another play, but to us it was a production just as great as anything that ever hit Broadway. It wasn't long before the prom, the senior luncheon, and baccalaureate slipped up on us. We climaxed our twelve memorable years with the night we will treasure forever-graduation night. Our hearts were in our throats as we proudly marched down the aisle to the beautiful strains of Pomp and Circumstancef' Now we must go our separate ways, but we will always share our treasured memories of the past years at East High. We will remember the heartaches and problems as well as the joys and fun. As we go our separate ways, may the Grace of God go with us, and may He help us all to lead happy, successful lives. 38 Prom Kid Day Baccalaureate Senior Luncheon CLASS OFFICERS - STANDING, left to right: Marshall Criss, Treafurery Terry Graves, Vice- Presidenly Gene Carlisle, Serretnfyf Aubrey Coleman, Chaplain. East Completes inth Full On August 25, 1958, the East High MUS- TANGS started two weeks of grueling, summer practice. An unprepared East ll met the Whiz Kids from Catholic High on September 11 and were defeated 41-6 by this champion- ship contender. Bartlett, the County runner up, was tough but not tough enough as the MUS- TANGS romped to a 6-0 victory. On October 3, a greatly improved East High team met the mighty South Side Scrappers and fought them on equal terms for three quarters before suc- cumbing to the runners-up in the Prep League. The following week Erayser caught East off- balance and slipped by for a 12-O victory. East played Humes and CBI-IS in the two games 7 - s ,. Through his extended efforts, the junior high sports have flourished mightily. November saw the close of an outstanding football season when they rornped to the Eastern Division Championship. The ponies lost a Heartbreaker to the tough Fair- view junior High for the city championship. A We consider Coach Horton's season outstanding, and We Wish him continued success. May all his endeavors turn out as well as in 1959. IIO Side straddle hop. i i if T S9 Who gets the tip? They also serve who only stand and wait.
