To the Seniors This commemoration I would like to dedicate To the graduating class of nineteen fifty-eight: Of course, East High is known by all to be In every way of quite superior qualityg The seniors this year have certainly attained Records surpassing many previously maintained. In the annual Merit Scholarship contest Four seniors earned the rank of Hfinalistf' Two members of this prosperous class Found the N.R.0.T.C. exam easy to pass. In this new age of missile and satellite Math and science were stressed both day and nightg It will be indeed interesting to see Just who the scientists of tomorrow soon will bel Anxiety caused by the S.A.T. and achievement test Was long forgot when favorable results were manifest Athletically, too, the seniors did quite well, With teams no other way described but aswell? No greater sense of spirit was ever displayed Than at the games these gallant Mustangs played. I don't believe that I will soon forget The last football game we won - such regret To think I'd never again sit with friends And eagerly see how another season ends! Basketball this year produced two stirring games With Central - none but victorious were our aims. This clamor and excitement Iill often mentally reiterate And vividly recall a season that was truly great! As graduation time finally drew nigh, Everyone greeted it with a gleeful sigh. But on that glorious long-anticipated day Many a wistful senior did mentally say: KOur lamp of knowledge brightly burnsg We owe its light to you. These days with you will never die Nor will our love for you. 77 Servzce MEPWQ -1 . wwf-- Highlights 3' if Class Officers Bottom row: Donna Locke, Secretaryg Jule Pills, Treasurer. The staff members are constantly on the lookout for new ideas to better their paper. A new method of selling' issues was introduced in 1956, and it has been carried over into this year. Fourteen issues plus the April Fool paper are included in the student subscription. PICTURE EDITOR Charlene Bouldin PHOTOGRAPHER Tex Blair Student The East High Student Council was ready and waiting for the beginning of school, eager to help with registration. Soon after school started, we were priv- ileged to have the Honorable Frank Clement, the governor of Tennessee, speak. His appearance was the first in a series of programs on citizenship. Other types of programs were held during the year. In October, an assembly was held presenting the purposes and requirements of the extracurricular clubs and activities. Early in Novem- ber, two members of our Student Council, Sue Golden and Paul Meacham, traveled to Arlington, Virginia to participate in the convention of the Southern Association of Student Councils. PRESIDENT Charles Clement Many happy but tedious hours were spent in the redecorating of our Student Council room. Our pride and joy is now the beautiful picture of East High which adorns one wall. BOYS' VICE PRESIDENT Paul Meacham With the Christmas holidays came Christmas letters for the representatives, monitors, and faculty. On the second day of 1958, East High students were delighted to return to school to see color- full posters seriously urging them to study. In March the elections for next year's Student Council were held. The halls were gaily decorated with posters and slogans of GIRLS' VICE PRESIDENT the Red and Cray parties. The new officers will carry on the fine Elaine Johnston work of this ye-ar's Student Council.
