' 'j FN I - Forward holds the thought of the realization of dreams and ideals cherished from kindergarten to the twelfth grade. In its short eight years East has fulfilled the idea FORWARD, EAST HIGH This movement, known as progress, is only accomplished by the students of a school. Their ingenuity, leadership, and character, not the outward appearance of beauty in building or grounds, have kept East moving forward. Therefore, the theme for your 1956 MUSTANG is not centered on the physical attractions of the school but on its heart and pulse . . . you, the students. Student life, individual or group is featured in every phase of your yearbook. Every person casts a shadow. As long as there is prog- ress at East High, the shadows of its students will con- tinue to lean forward. N-J 'Xa x , f 'H 5 ,f 19 J.--64, Q , , .X. CLASSES .... . .... Her interest, her actions, her thoughts all complement her pleasing personality and appearance. Through every relationship with Miss White the East student feels her warmth and friendliness and her unfailing willingness to help. Her ceaseless interest is best exemplified by her work with the Senior Class and the Honor Society. A finer person could not be found as a sponsor for the Honor Societyg Miss White's life best illustrates the word honor. In her classes she always finds time to compliment last night's football team or congratulate someone's outstanding extracurricular work. This characteristic of complete fairness has endeared her to every East High student. Declaration of Independence Copyright 1942 by The Ohman Company Memphis, Tennessee. To all East High seniors I dedicate this A tale of occurrences soon to be missed For day after day all through this year We worked and we played in harmonious good cheer Accomplishing feats and proving our worth To all who watched from this class's birth This year our class can graduate with pride Based on their records which they should not hide For one last time I'd like to call to mind All the tributes to this class I can find First came sports and our great football season Which was quite successful for a very good reason Our team gave a gleam to each student's eye As our record was four wins, four losses, and a tie Our boys were Well rewarded with many All-Memphis choices And a fine cheerleading squad contributed their voices Basketball and spring sports proved successful, too Because of the hard work and talent of you And also Twirp Week was held again Where men were treated like ladies and ladies like men The Armistice Day parade was next in line And our cadets and sponsors looked mighty fine As they marched ahead perfectly to win second place just losing first in a very tight race. Meanwhile the Student Council brought fame to our school As president of MASC they did rule For the state convention they acted as host Achieving success of which all can boast The paper and annual were led by hardworking staffs That published bigger and better examples of their crafts Various records were set in other fields too Like the many clubs led by all of you For here the seniors who served as officers proved to be Responsible for the successful projects and programs it seems to me Therefore I tip my hat to each of you And offer a thanks from East High, too.
