All East students are required to study English for three years. Sophomores Write themes, read classical books, learn correct grammatical construction, and develop more effective speech. One of the requirements for juniors is to compose a research theme, stimu- lating thought in organized, documented writing. Seniors take composition, college reading, journalism, world or English literature, debate or speech and basic English. Advanced place- ment offered to superior students, is valid for college credit.
