Science- Loborotory Work ond Lecture lncreose Leorning Dissecting organisms, experimenting with chemicals and producing curious smells, and studying life through a microscope are a few of the activities taking place behind the doors of the science rooms. More than one-third of East's students are enrolled in the ten courses varying from basic to advanced biology and physiology. Laboratory work, included in all courses, enables each student to confirm facts explained by the textbook. He sees the reaction of the mixture of two chemicals instead of reading about it. Students actually explore the vital organs of animals instead of studying sketches of them. The recently adapted chemistry study, in contrast to the former system, stresses labor- atory experiments more than memorization of formulas. This department is striving for improvement in order to prepare students for their roles in this increasingly scientific world. DONT EXPLODE... grimaces jeanne Pirtle, '65, and Peggy McMullen, '65, as they observe a chemical reaction. Tague, Gerald, M.S. Hunt, Stanley, M.S. Peters,Willard, M.A. Prophet, Donald, M.S.
