In an institution of learning, more must be present than bricks and mortar. Within East's halls a dignity is found which can be attributed neither to her building nor her campusg but rather her statliness is due to the pride her students have in her traditions. Customs at East are slow to form, but even slower to end. They appear on the school scene almost unnoticed, however, if one were to be lost, a part of East would die. This year an old tradition gave birth to a new. East's lofty Tower, which has for 39 years symbolized East's spirit, is now endeared to the students even more. Chimes installed in the Tower this past summer re- sound to the strains of the Alma Mater at 8:15 A. M. and 3:45 P.M. each school day. But old traditions must not be forsaken for the new. What would East be without class corners and class yells? What would happen to East's spirit if it were not for pep assemblies, after-game Hangar dances, and lettermen's section at games? Is there a boy who forgets the moment when he asked his girl to the prom, or the girl who does not become breathless when she re- calls asking a boy to walk with her at grad- uation? East's traditions are formed from fond memories. To these we dedicate Echoes of '62. 5 'll Tradition. . .A comes a senior. ring is turned, and a junior be- Tradition. . .A t aswiwjwx: if :Y-1, ot?
