Here at East High School, our excellent Pop Choir has performed many times in and out of school. The Pop choir was formed two years ago. by our music instructor. Mr. Michael Davis. In the two years in which they have been together, they have performed for many local organizations, including the Internal Revenue Service, and Southwestern Bell. They have also been to different schools such as Northeast and Lincoln Academy. The twenty performers in the pop choir are also members of our 70 member concert choir. In the past we have seen many good performances, and the students at East hope to see many more. 76c ‘Sa tcC Photo By: Mallot Photo By. Clo« 1. Front row (I to r) Andrea Toombs. Margaret White. We unknowingly began the countdown for some of the best days' of our lives. Yes. our first year at East was one of trial and error for all of us. It seemed to pass like the wind. In fact, all of our years at East seemed to fly by so fast, its somewhat hard to believe that we’re seniors. Together we struggled through chapter tests, crowded halls, and long lunch lines. We just couldn’t wait for graduation day. Now its here, and as we look back, we remember the good times we’ve shared. As hard as we wish, we can never go back, its time to move on. So congratulations class of 1987. its our time to shine, so lets make the best of itll Seniors 3 I Senior Cabinet Officers: (I to r) La-trice Stewart - Sgt. at Arms, Wanda Wilson - Vice President, Lowynta Mitchell - President, Len-nie McDaniels - Treasurer, Jessica McCallop - Sgt. at Arms, not pictured Alicia Escareno - secretary Se U vi (£cUU tet Photo By; Duffy Photo By, Duffy Front Row (I to r) Alicia Escareno, Wanda Wilson, Vickie Co-zart, Sharon Mosby, Lowynta Mitchell. Mr. Webber had been a teacher and coach at East for the past 25 years. He taught industrial arts and coached football, basketball, and track. Some of his track teams were the best in the K.C. area. He served as interium director and athletic director for East. He was also director of ticket sales for the Kansas City Chiefs. Mr. Webber was an avid golfer. He and his wife were often involved in area tournaments. There are few teachers who will ever attain the friendship of the students and the respect from their contemporaries as Jack Webber. East will never forget his contributions to the students who have passed these halls during the last quarter century. Mr. Webber with his best friends and former Coaches at East, Mr. Roy Brown, Mr. Les Fields, and Mr. Buck Harris. On January 9. 1987, SGM Gus Wilson lost his battle with cancer. SGM Gus Wilson served 27 years in the military and was honorably discharged. He was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam conflict. He received many awards for his service including the purple heart and the bronze star. The SGM came to East 7 years ago and had been a positive influence on the young men and women in the JROTC program. Few men in this world can go to their final rest being as gifted and talented as the SGM. He was a professional soldier and a gentleman. 1. Best Athletes - Willie Forte and Jeanine McCormick 2. The public library will relocate in the community to serve the needs of the public. Thousands of new books, maps, references, and A.V. materials are being catalogued by Mrs. Jimenez and her student staff. Eventually over 12.000 books will line the shelves making the East Resource Center an AAA library, into a warm, relaxing center. That common bond among East athletics is defined as achievement through competition. Each team strived to reach its goals: some personal, others school wide. Each team also worked their best, which gave the other teams the desire to give it their all too. It wasn't whether we won or lost, it was how East played the game. Sports were an important part of life, but not only for the athletes. Dedicated fans followed their teams progress throughout the season. Nick Lowery is the place kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs. He visited some of our sophomore English classes. There were 40 lucky students chosen by a committee of teachers for their improvements, good attendance, scholarship, and citizenship. The 40 students and their parents had the opportunty to watch the Chiefs practice. They were also given a tour of Arrowhead Stadium. They were given tickets and transportation to a game. They received gifts such as dufflebags. hats, notebooks, and pens. We want to say. Thanks Nick!” By M. Vierow PAUL'S SENTRY HARDWARE, INC. Monday - Friday 8.30 - 6 00 Saturday 8.30 - 6.00 SAMUEL L. Despite our many problems and conflicting personalities, we success fully completed the 1987 Eastonian. We had good times and we had bar times, and even times when we thought that we weren't going to make ou deadlines. Thanks to a handful of dedicated yearbook staff members w pulled through. I can honestly say that I’m going to miss the deadlines, and the litth disagreements that we had. Most of all I’m going to miss East High School I hope that this feeling is shared by all of the SENIOR staff members. I als hope that the future yearbookees” can live up to our standards.
