Theme THE HERITAGE YEAR The Ford Foundation Grant In 1982 East recieved an award of 1000 dollars to help improve the climate of our school. This award made us eligible for competing for a 820,000 grant. In October we were advised that we had been awarded the grant to improve our school climate and develop a multi-cultural program for students during the 1983 school year. The money has been used to focus on our heritage and the development of an awareness of careers in agri-business. East has representatives from 10 ethnic groups. Members of those groups have formed the HERI- TAGE CLUB. The Club has four principle partsg the planning board, the student advisory, a performing troop and a two day spring fair. The founding club members have written a . Mosul You and Me in '83 N15 Stihl f f 2 1 5..- .A -x ye 3 L41 .' J.. V , ., S ,iw lp! constitution that they hope will cause a new tradition to be established at East. THE RAINBOW PEOPLE The Ford Foundation money has given us the opportunity to explore the contributions made to Kansas City by people of many colors and cultures. As the descendents of those early pioneers we of this generation are proud to be a part of East High and see ourselves as The Rainbow People our rainbow comes in the beautiful colors found in the I-Iuman,Race.
