1978 Eastonian 1924 Van Brunt Kansas City, Mo. 64127 l Table of Contents Reflections The pages of this yearbook reflect the moods and the real personality of individuals. It shows the reflections of the inner East High School. Reflections are the way we are and want to be. The way we act is what will reflect on us in years to come. Reflect on the past and remember the sad, happy, frustrating and wonderful times. Reflect on times which we see. Loving, understanding, happy and free. Reflections on feelings good or bad. Reflections on moods happy or sad. This year reflect and go with the times. This year reflect and let go of your minds. “Sometimes, not often enough, we reflect upon the good things. And those thoughts always center around those we love; And I think about the people who mean so much to me, And who for so many years have made me so very happy. I count the times that I have forgotten to say Thank You and just how much I love them.” Felice Mancini Mr. Fred Heine, the knot that held East High School together, did not have an easy task. Pulling together the strands of a high school, students, faculty and other staff members, took someone trustworthy and likeable. Someone who could gather all the loose ends to make a bonding relationship among all people who make up East High School! 1. Mr. Fred Heine 2. Chow time 3. Another hour till lunch! 8 1. Mr. William Love - Vice Principal Our vice principals were helpful to our No. 1 principal. They rounded up students with conference cards, and organized their problems. We had three vice principals, Mr. William Ridley, Mr. William Love, and Mr. William White. We are truly thankful for them. If not for them, students would have been in the office all day. 2. Mr. William Ridley - Vice Principal 9 3. Mr. William White - Vice Principal The main concern of the vice-principals at East High School was to keep things under control and running smoothly. Mr. William White was in charge of most hall sweeps. Mr. William Love spent a great deal of time in the office with the conference card lists, and Mr. William Ridley was in charge of student schedules, thus forming a solid, efficient system. 1. It’s been a long day. Dear Sir: you have just been suspended! Look at that pretty brown Cadillac. 10 Faculty English The Language Arts Department gave students an opportunity to select from a variety of English classes. Students were able to select from such offerings as mythology, science fiction, composition, short stories and several others. These classes helped students to further their education and enlarge their view of the world. Mr. Robert Buchanan Ms. Linda King Ms. Pat Penelton Ms. Anna Marie Peterson Ms. Elaine Schlozman 12 “I’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse. Mr. Robin Suhl Ms. Marilyn Stallings ‘You’ve got to be kidding!” “Me and my shadow!” “Just Love That Tie!” Ms. Donna Zachery Ms. Linda Watkins pipii MATH Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing are the basic processes of the mathematics classes. There are many levels from advanced algebra, geometry, and trigonometry to general and refresher math. This variety offered stimuli and satisfaction to those students who found that dealing in abstracts offered rewards. Mr. Bruce Cohen SCIENCE The science department was really on the job this year. They taught us more about the world, our surroundings, and the inner side of us. The courses offered were biology, human science, ecology, and general science. The teachers in this department worked very hard in getting the students more interested in science. Whether it involved bones or snakes, the teachers of science taught it all. Mr. Robert Holder Mr. Charles Mostar Ms. Carolyn Banks Basic Education Ms. Beverly Jones Basic Education 15 HISTORY History repeats itself. Events have a great deal in common. What’s different about events is the names of the heroes, and the dates. Plans of opponents vary from time to time. This makes history special to read and experience. Mr. John Hopkins Ms. Bonnie Dennis Mr. James Hess Mr. Fred Henderson Mr. Clyde Sims The Misfit gang 16 Mr. Jack Webber Crafts CREATIVE ARTS The purpose of the Creative Arts Department was to help the students to learn and to establish in different fields. Besides having the regular courses, such as foods, photography and art, students learned to achieve and also to have fun in these different courses. Students also learned to correspond in either French or Spanish. Ms. Geneva Reiman Ms. Phyllis Diener Home Economics Home Economics Mr. Thomas Mallot Ms. Sharon Vaughn Photography Art Mr. James Boyer French Mr. William Brashier Permanent Sub Mr. Gilberto Alzate Spanish Vocations A sound body is the basis for a sound life. The Physical Education program at East offered the opportunity to students to remain physically tit. The R.O.T.C program allowed anyone interested in the discipline of military life to participate in that area. Business courses allowed students to develop the skills necessary to pursue a career as competent office employees. Ms. Audre Owens-G.P.E. Sgt. The cafeteria workers come in very early to prepare a breakfast, which most schools in the Kansas City area do not have. They worked arduously daily, preparing nutritious meals for the students and faculty of East High School. The bussing of students seemed to involve the lives of everyone. Those bussed into East High faced the problem of meeting new people and finding their way around in a new environment. The students from East had to readjust their views to students with different loyalties. In general the necessary adjustments were made. Strangers became friends, school rivalries were discarded. The 1977-78 yearbook is dedicated to all the students of East High School for their spirit, cooperation and ability to make a go of what was said to be totally impossible. Congratulations and be proud!! You did it!! “With a little help from Cheryl, Mike peeks for a solution.” Keep those love letters going! 24 Student Life 25 Partnership is succeeding. Student Life “Wow! This is hot stuff.” “My eyes adore you. Where were you when the lights went out? “Oh” “Oh” ...caught you in the hall sweep. 26 Student Life “Hey gang, one more time!” A typical class, you see that school is a lot of fun! “I’m going to get this right if it’s the last thing I do!” “Lights... Camera... Action.” Student Life She’s one of us! In -di-Ges-tion 28 Let’s shake a leg Barbie! The Echo is published by a devoted staff, and Ms. Marilyn Stallings, their advisor. The main goal of the Echo was to keep the student body informed on all of the happenings at East.
