To help give students an idea of what is available, a one-semester sophomore course was required this year. Folklore and mythology were new offerings, also. One problem unique to the English department was fin- ding a place for books and materials since the English bookroom was used as a classroom. fljeft to rightj Mrs. Byrd, Paula Carroll and Violet Buzzard discussed films viewed in creative writing. Active year for fine arts Fine arts classes are intended to improve the students understanding and ability in band, choir, art and photography. Photography students studied the principles of light and learned how to use the adjustable camera un- der all kinds of lighting conditions. Art students worked on projects such as oil painting, silk screening and studied the role of an artist. The band participated in groundbreaking ceremonies at Armco Steel, marched in the American Royal parade and hosted the all-city band festival. The choir performed at area elementary schools during the Christ- mas season and had a series of spring concerts. QTOPJ Mr. Ryon showed Evelyn Green how to squeegee the silk screen. As a project advanced photography class made life-sized photographs of members of the basketball team.
