lwee Able C ounselors Gezee eedeez' Advice EXAMINING THE FILES for the information necessary to lier work as sophomore counselor is Mrs. Genevieve Scott. A calm attitude and a smile that puts students at ease is that of Mr. Edwin J. King. freshman and senior counselor. Mr. King has done more than his share in working with students, as he has been active in scouting and camp work for a number of years, He has taught at Central Missouri state college and also summer programs at junior college. As the reliable person he is, Mr, King has given guid- ance for meeting college requirements, job placement op- portunities and adequate scholarship information. He also arranges for visiting teachers and continues to help at East with any counseling problems that might arise, Counseling problems are also common among the students. When a problem does occur, he attempts to find the reason rather than blame the student. To many. Mr. King is a friend, a counselor, and a teacher. ALWAYS READY T0 HELP, Miss Anno C. Stewart, sub-freshman and junior counselor checks student progress. Responding quickly to the needs of many studCnIS, Mrs. Genevieve Scott, liast's new sophomore counselor, has found a way to lighten the load of Mr lidxvin King and Miss Anna Stewart. Although this is Mrs. Scotts first year at East, she has gained many new friends and has de- veloped a manner of counseling that can not be equaled, Mrs. Scott, who took her undergraduate and graduate work at Central Missouri state college, has taught several years in elementary and secondary schools, She has also taught in Bamberg, Germany and here in Kansas City at Central junior high, Her counseling job at East has helped numerous sopho- mores with their college preferences and careers. She also organizes testing material that the sophomores use during the year. ln the spare time that she has, Mrs. Scott enjoys read- ing all sorts of classics and taking care of her twin boys. COMPARISONS BETWEEN COUNSELING cards and college desires are scrutinized by the freshman and senior counselor, Mr. Edwin J. Stewart, counselor and advisor for the sub-freshman and junior classes, has found many friends in her 13 years at East high school. In her daily routine she finds time to help organize Business Education. Career. and College Days. Miss Stewart helps plan students' programs for the coming year and assists with semester changes. She receives scholarship information and has numerous pamphlets and bulletins from almost every college in the United States, Miss Stewart graduated from Redemptorist high school and attended St. Teresa college in Kansas City. l.ater she attended Northwestern university where she got her masters degree. Each year the counselors rotate the classes which they counsel in order that a student have the same counselor dur- ing all his years at East. Besides keeping busy by aiding students, Miss Stewart also sponsors the A.A.U.XY!,, an hon- orary group of junior and senior girls who rate scholastically high.
