Their work requires lots of skill Cand elbow greasej . Still, these diligent workers always have a cheerful smile to greet students seeking advice or information. Busy Mrs. Verda Davidson, Registrar, has charge of all 1750 student records. Mrs. Frances Clouse, Attendance Clerk, efficiently keeps track of all ab- sences and tardies. Mrs. Lola Snowden, the third clerk, has a variety of duties which she does quickly and accurately. All together, a winning team! A WELL-EDUCATED NIAN must have in- terests in many fields. This certainly is true of our principal, Mr. C. O. Williams. We are all familiar with his friendly greeting as we meet him in the hall, and his bold signature on various excuse and change cards. What we perhaps aren't as acquainted with are his activities after hours. He is one of the library's most regular visitors, for many a night he leaves with an arm- load of books. Active also in church work, he teaches a class of young people. As an escape from this intellectual world, he has set up in his basement a carpentry shop. TRU TEE ON DUTY ORCHIDS to the first semester Student Council for the new flashy proctor buttons which they made possible! A new system was instituted in the cafeteria by the proctors under the guidance of Mr. James R. Shepherd, teacher. This year, contrary to previous years, no table was allotted to the proctors. Instead, they were scattered throughout the cafeteria to maintain order. Another change under the present administration was the segregation of the boys and girls leaving the cafeteria. T' On dufy? Hold that linel l'll have three tootsie rolls! USUPER SERVICED is Z1 vivid description of the amount of work accomplished by the industrious cafeteria workers every day, every lunch hour. It is anyone's guess how they know just the right amount of food to prepare, for every day these great masters of cookery prepare an unbelievable amount of food for the ever-hungry student body and the faculty. With Miss Chase as its manager, the cafeteria is run smoothly and efficiently. These women manage to serve five lunch periods with never tiring efforts and a specialty of theirs, the friendly smile they are always ready to give you. The cafeteria prepares not just plate lunches but a variety of salads, desserts, soups, and serves ice cream. To the delight of everyone turkey was served at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Like any organization a good deal of time is consumed by meetings, but they also back such activities as Open House, teen-town, and the Fairyland picnic. Outstanding on the P.T.A. calendar are the fall and spring potlucks. At these evening meetings, husbands and wives both take part in the activities. Founders' Day was marked this year with a talk by Mr. C. H. Nowlin, former East principal, and with a skit by Miss Marie Burrus' senior English students. Bark Roux' Mrs. W. M. Circus was held in the Municipal Auditorium on April 2. East was outstandingly repre- sented this year by a skating act in which many East girls performed, as- sisted by Eustis Cadets. The boys wore formal attire, and the girls wore brief skating costumes. The highlight of the skating act was the comical performance of Keith Brown, dressed as a space man. The act, which proved to be ci favorite with the audi- ence, won third place. R. 0. T. C. CIRCUS Time out from practice s ' M N, IN THE GOOD OLD ' ' ig l 9 .,.' SECOND FIDDLE brought forth the most de- lightful music ever-the laughter of the au- dience at the 1954 Spring Play. The plot in- volved a mock marriage between Joan Keeler, JoAnn Wfoodruffg and Harold Wer- ple, Bob Johnsong which was found to be legal. The perplexing situation was made even funnier by the actions of the sleepy butler, John Root, and the ever hungry Minnie, Pat Mills. The appearance of Har- old's fiancee, Dorothy, Darlene Gunter, made matters even more complicated. To top the whole thing off Joan's mother, Jo- anne Ruberson, made her appearance, and the couple had to hide the true circum- stances from her. The whole baffling situ- ation was quickly remedied when Harold and joan discovered they really were in love. 1 1 1 K as 1 as iv' Buck Roux' William Hyland, Bob Collier, Ferril Hastings, Charles Grife, Bill Fairall, Gary Gulick, David Bales, Dean Hickson, Barbara Nystrom.
