The East Side 1111p1'ove111e11t .'Xssoc1atio11 presented the matter to tl1e school hoard and as a result the tract was purclmsecl from Mr. R. A. Long in 1923. During the fi1'st year of East lligh Schools existence, the stu- dents and faculty successfully met tl1e 1JI'0lJlClll of i11stit11ti11g the features which shoulcl become the school's traclitions. Cluhs were organizecl and tl1e athletic clepartinent hegan its career, As a result. tl1e highest fo1'111 of school loyalty and the clesire to proinote all ac- tivities into wl1icl1 our SCl1001 enterecl were createcl. Honors were attained 111 this first year i11 111usic ancl in 17l1lJl1C?l110llS. Also, seven pupils qualified for l'llCllllJC1'Sl'lllJ in tl1e National Honor Society. Ruilcling upon the acl1ievc111e11ts of tl1e first year's Work. we were able to carry out tl1e z1ctivitiesV111ore extensively the seconcl year, Scholarship was aclvancefl, athletics were well supporterl. and the cluhs gained prestige. r'Xg.fai11 l1o11ors were attained in publica- tions. Scl1ool spirit surpasserl even that of tl1e pioneer year. Twenty-two pupils hecame 1TlCITll3CfS of tl1e National Honor Society. Our traditions have hecome 111ore firmly estz1hlisl1erl tl1is year ancl we have gained rccog11itio11 from tl1e other scl1ools. especially hy our success in athletics, The hasket hall team co11trih11tecl to the fame of East High hy winning tl1e state cl1an111io11sl1ip in basket hall.
