Building East through diligent organi- zation and precise determination, he has strived for the ultimate in all things. His increasing efforts to make East better, and his warm handshake portray Dr. Arbogast - a man, a builder, and a friend. Guiding students in the choice of classes and offering vocational advice are only two of the several duties of Miss Cotterell, our Assistant Principal A in Charge of Curriculum and Program Supervision. A pleasant and under- standing friend to students, she has given her expert experience and ad- vice to help the students at East. Serving as one of our Assistant Princi- pals, Mr. Garff has labored tirelessly in his efforts for unity in the student body at East as well as for the in- dividual welfare. In the position of i disciplinarian, he is known for his i understanding in student matters, and his interest in sports. l ii STP., iv DN ,kjgwliowfyyfgff I Board of' Education Engaged in a thankless, if not demanding iob,are the members of the Board of Education. A body designated as the policy- makers, they have capably as- sumed and carried out the re- sponsibilities of their respective departments. DR NOALL MR SCHROEDER DR. BENNION il ,I it Counselors, rg East girls have again seen a great year under the able direc- tion of Miss Utermann. Leading the girls Through this successful year, Miss Utermann has dis- played qualities of reserve and perfection in all the activities in which she has been engaged. Her interest in the school and her friendly advice have won the praise of all girls. Performing his tasks as Counse- lor of Boys both quietly and ef- ficiently, Mr. Hale has earned the respect of the boys of East. A friend to boy and girl alike, he has given advice with a reserve and humor that has endeared him and his work to the East High students. -Q., Miss Utermunn Mr. Hale P.T.A. An organization designed for the better- ment ofthe school, the P.T.A. has done a fine iob in uniting the parents and teachers in a spirit of co-operation. She is continually exploding in bursts of laughter and a mischievous, prankish pixie describes her perfectly. Kally's bubbling personality is the secret to the successful year she's had as S.A.E. secretary. She's the iewel in our crown, the whipped cream on our cake. .M I wi,- With the unselfish attitude of putting school affairs above all else, Walley Duncan, our six-foot plus S.A.E Vice-president has done a top-notch job. Turning out a memorable T954 Homecoming, our versatile veep is a championship debater, and unusually good at vocalizing. l-le was indeed, a perfect right-hand man. Tom Early's shy smile has become as much a part of East as the seal in the front hall. The A-l iob our business manager has done this year was well demonstrated in his expert handling of the Car- nival. Tom's interest in sports lfootball, basketball, skiing, et all plus his ingenuity and know-how, have been a shot in the arm to his Alma Mater, and has certainly proven that Eciders know a good man when they see one. l .- i - ' - - ' l 5'-r.'f.f . . ....r..Fff2 -A Effervescent, vibrant, exhilarating, are Mary Dawn's private adjectives. Even getting up at 7:00 to march for Pep Club lone of her numerous activitiesl didn't dim the enthusiasm that permeates every inch of M. D.'s five feet, six inches. Her capabilities were well demonstrated in the book she produced under her title of East's First Historian. By now, this bundle of enthusiasm has us doubting whether or not she'll ever run out of pep. - A mischievous twinkle and a million laughs portray the sparkling and vibrant president of East '54-'55, Dick Paul. The arm that has enioyed so much suc- ces firing hook shots on the basketball courts has proven equally as proficient at wielding a gavel. Dick's self-assured way of presiding at assemblies, and his ever-ready smile belie leadership ability that can't be topped anywhere. The many hours he has put in before and after school are another illustration of his intense school spirit and loyalty. Dick's tireless efforts in the school's behalf have earned him bushels and bushels of praise. Allz, : , : , ' A QW , fl Ly :aw 5a'g-sf' ,U B , um -. W ' -'w?f5S1f msn.. The Student Representative Coun- cil, better known as Boosters, is comprised of energetic and enterprising representatives from each home room, members of the Board of Control, and the class presidents. Led by Chair- man Ralph Thomson, the Boost- ers pushed the Leopard Chest and P.T.A. drives, games, and dances. They maintained top- notch school spirit in all activi- ties, approved club petitions and strived to solve all student prob- lems presented to them. Dolled-up cheers'and a bunch of snappy new formations have rnade them a terrific ornament tor the football and basketball fields and courts. They've informed us that they've succeeded in getting a wholesale price on laryngitis remedies. The stiffness caused by arm-flinging, leg-splitting, and all sorts of antics have managed to keep the mercantile institutions operating in the city by the salty sea. Miss Warthen has been an efficient, cooperative sponsor, too. How about fifteen cheers for the cheerleaders ? 'U East-Jordan 18-6 20 Jordan was the first league victim to hear the fierce growl of the mighty Leopards as East triumphed 18-6 in the league opener. East not only stopped the pile- driver offense of the Jordan Beetdiggers but also put on a little show of their own. Bill Brickey, Dick Pratt, Craig McFarlane, Bob Birch, and Jim Hibbard con- sistantly provided gaps for some terrific running feats. Spence Clark, John Mash, and Chuck Murray took advantage of these holes, while Steve Watson, a talented Junior, romped with determination through the Jordan defense. Spence Clark i scored East's first tally and Watson followed suit to leave the score 12-O at the half. The last half saw Watson chalk up the other six points as the ball worked F its way down-field in the hands of Chamberlain and Ringwood. In the final min- utes of the game, Jordan fought its way to the goal lines and the game wound up at 18-6. Left to Right, F'rst Row: S'oI Nelson, Cliff Edmunds, Glenn P'nder. The Leopards drove 62 yards in eight plays for one score as Watson, Rytting, and Clark all got in on the spree. The second half saw the iunior class well represented as they proceeded to hold the farm- ers cibout even and give East the 33-19 victory. At least that's the way it turned out this year, as West set the whole town talking as they slid through with an 8-6 win over the dismal Leopards. If there was ever a mixed up game, this was it. Not one point was scored on an offensive play, iust on the other team's errors. A West punt gave East the ball on the one-yard line and after the dust cleared on the next play, West had scored a safety and led 2-O. The Leopards got revenge as Jim Hibbard grabbed a Panther fumble and ran it over to give East the lead. Lady Luck had to have the whole show however, and a little while later, West scooped an identical East fumble and went the distance to score the fatal blow. , ,, . , U .-,L -Q 4... . . Arim- f.- N. East-South 13-13 The East High Leopards, in a desperate attempt to keep their championship hopes alive, were tied I3-13 by South, who came roaring back after a 13-0 half- time score. East hit pay pirt fast when Howard Ringwood took the ball and scrambled 53 yards to the South 17-yard line on the first play from scrim- mage. South held for two downs but Steve Watson stepped back and hit Ringwood in the end zone - anatomy or scoring area? An unsuccessful conversion attempt left the tally at 6-O. Shortly after, however, East got the ball on the South 44. Watson picked up five, Ringwood nine, then Watson ran 30 yards for a touchdown. A kick by Boyden made the score I3-O. The second half saw a South High center intercept an East pass on the T8 and with nothing between him and the goal, he scored their first tally, and the score was T3-7 after the conversion. In the fourth period, East fumbled on the 38, and a South pass brought the ball to the l5. The next play, run over by South, tied up the score and ended a heart-breaking game for a tremendous East High football team. .Av . is -in-. S., -4 in Q ng-. 1... .. Far be it for the de- baters to suffer a maladiusted social lite either, for they have thrown several bashes including an o'rous- que treasure hunt. left to Right Bob Pyper Carolyn Stewart Dave Ellison Golda Hatch Fred Hales Jim McFarland Mr Zarr. ,-141' :gn A Y sa K 5 ' '15 -, Q H NIIUIG it jener ncu ,N rrlernfen ,sprnrhe grnuulmt hu sine neun' jeele Those sassy shuss-boomers you saw streaking down the Alta and Brighton slopes are none other than the snow bunnies which make up one of the largest and most prominent clubs at East.
