EDWIN F RUNDELL EDWIN F RUNDELL 1901 1956 East Hugh School was shocked on the mornung of December 6 1956 at the news of Mr Edwun F Rundell s death Though he had been assustant pruncupal at East for less than a year he had become a fruend of the students and a valuable member of the faculty Mr Rundell came to East from South Park Hugh School where he had been appounted as a socual studues teacher Later he became that school s furst guudance counselor He was the author of the book we all used un the seventh grade Buffalo Your Cuty Several years ago he organuzed and for one year was moderator for the WBEN Hugh School Raduo Forum a panel program for teen agers on Saturday mornungs Of hum Mr Thomas Murdock has wrutten The roots of untegruty fudeluty co-operatuon and thoughtfulness were, deeply planted un hum Love of hus work and concern for others werelcharacter ustucs whuch enhanced hus devoted lufe He enjoyed workung wuth boys and gurls and one of hus greatest joys was knowung that hus counselung had auded theur development At the memorual assembly held un February l957 Robert Buckert representung the students saud of hum Mr Rundell was a kund tempered man respected by all even by the students he was obluged to duscuplune He frequently gave help to students who found subjects duffucult and were so duscouraged that they asked to drop them Mr Rundell wull have a place un the affectuons of students and teachers aluke for a long tume The effect of hus death upon East was As when a lordly cedar green wuth boughs goes down And leaves a lonesome place agaunst the sky 6 . - , . , . . . . . , . , . . When the news ot Mr Mullers transfer to Bennett was announced great con sternatuon prevauled for he was loved by all the students of our school Though he came to East only un l952 he had become so furmly a part of the school ut seemed unthunkable we could con tunue wuthout hum There us no student who dud not thunk of hum as a fruend Hus quuet confudence hus ready sym pathy hus good counsel hus gay spurut these we had learned to count on Now there us an empty spot un our hearts whuch no one can ever quute full We muss hum sad ly and hope that only the best wull come to hum un all the years ahead Wuth the returement of Mrs Sophua Fox Brown we have lost a teacher whose warm truendluness unfunute patuence and suncere un derstandung of young people have endeared her to East Hugh stu dents We shall not soon forget her luveluness her good humor her subtle sense of style and her true love of books and learnung Her unsustence on a hugh qualuty of scholarshup her unspuratuon and guudance have helped count less students to fund theur places un our modern complex world To Mrs Brown whom we ad mure so much goes our wush for contunuung happuness n all her favorute pursuuts' MRS SOPHIA FOX BROWN LLOYD A.
