A Roman scholar probably would not have labored quite as long over the conjugation of this famous romantic verb as do East High's first year Latin students, but, nevertheless, he might feel not too strange in some of our classes, for learning is learning in every place and time. It is the proud tradition of the academic subjects that they bridge the ages. 0 COMPUTE AND MEASURE- T0 UNDERSTAND THEIR WORLD Even though East's instructors do not employ the corporal inducement to study that was freely applied by the old Roman school masters, high standards are maintained and hard work is the criterion for any diploma that is granted. A general academic diploma is awarded for a three-unit sequence in one of the following fields: art, business subjects, languages, homemaking, industrial arts, mathematics, music, science. In addition to these sub- jects a student must sucessfully complete four years of English, three and one-half years of social studies, one-half year of health, and one year each of mathematics and science, if they are not a part of his selected course.
