Pep Fests, Band, Speaker Mark Assemblies Assemblies were not too numerous during the school year partly be- cause of our large student body and our staggered schedule. Most of the assemblies were pep fests to boost team spirit. Hours were spent work- ing out skits. Some of them bombed but others proved to be funny, clever comments on life at East. A talk session by Dr. james Merrel was an excellent commentary on sex education in the public schools. The NORAD band gave a concert. Disgusted with his class, Mr. Bach gives up. New Talent Shows In Play Walter Kerr's Stardust was the drama department's choice for the winter play. The play is a farce which tries to put down the methods of acting. The two main characters, Prudence Mason and Professor Bach have conflicting views on how to act and their opinions clash when Miss Mason is hired by the professor's college to play the lead in a theatri- cal production. The 18 member cast provided an opportunity for new talent in the department including six sopho- mores. jan Barnes was the student director under Mr. Canfield and Dave Walters acted as stage manager. l l Winter Play 25
