Mr. joe Berini Counselors satisfy educational needs ln a large and crowded school, the individual student may feel as though he has shrunk to the status of only one more body hurrying through the halls. At East, this problem is further compounded by the split scheduling and computer programming necessitated by our large student body. The purpose of the counseling staff is to assure that the personal needs of each student at East are met as well as possible by his educational experience. The guidance counselors are both willing and prepared to help any stu- dent benefit as much as possible from his three years at East High School, as well as aiding students with person- al problems. In addition, the counselors aid students in planning their future through administration of college entrance tests, study of academic, vocational and techni- cal education, and discussion of other career possibilities. The counselors seek to help every student evaluate his strengths and weaknesses and then choose a course of action suited to his needs and skills. Mr. David Fraser Mr. Roger Roffler 1 Mp... x 1 13

g D ? , fficials direct school affairs The administration of any school, especially of a large one, needs a department whose function is to directly deal with relations between students and administration. Mr. Bittner's job is to see that this function is fulfilled with maximum efficiency. The smoothness of East student- administration relationships in a time when concepts of student involvement in school affairs are changing as rapidly as today is a tribute to the effectiveness and effi- ciency of Mr. Bittner and his staff. Another contribution of Mr. Bittner, and one of which most students are unaware, is his service in a key post in the athletics program. All students owe a vote of thanks to Mr. Bittner for his part in coordinating these enjoyable contests. Mr. Bittner's efforts toward not only efficiency in the administration but also toward good relations between the students and the administration have greatly im- proved the effectiveness of education at East. Mr. Victor Bittner, Assistant Principal 12 This new edition of the Birch Log signifies the end of another school year. Hopefully for each of you, this year has been marked in the pages of your personal history book. l trust there are a number of major accomplish- ments to which you can point with pride. This memory book should serve to remind you of the life and times of our school during the year just past. My hope is that your memory of these months will be pleasant, now and in the years to come. For the seniors, this is the end of the beginning. Your life will take on a new dimension with the awarding of the high school diploma. To the juniors, the year ahead offers an opportunity unexcelled for continuing the programs begun by the class of '70, And to the sophomore class, new areas of responsibility are opening to you as you look forward to the time when it will be your task to as- sume the major responsibility for student leadership. And so, as we close the record for the 1969-1970 school year, may I wish for each of you a most pleasant Principal and happy future. , A Q
