Fritch. girls state Girls' State is something that I will probably never forget, something that I will never be able to stop talking about, and something that will always bring smiles and fond memories whenever I think about my past experiences. Four-hundred and eighty girls representing schools from all over the state took part in the 21 Annual Session of Girls' State this year. Each year it meets in the 4-H Club Building on the Minnesota State Fair Grounds and is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. The lasting friendships, the knowledge of government, the patriotism which has been instilled in me and the inspirations which I have been given are my gains from Girls' State. It is actually learning government through living it. Two parties were formed and government was carried out on local, county and state levels. Girls' State is a mythical state, but the activities are real. I will always treasure what I have gained from Girls' State - the best state in the land. I sincerely thank you for giving me the opportunity to represent East at the 1967 session of Girls' State. , SA' In ,Cf NATIONAL MERIT SEMI-FINALISTS Carol derhorck, INSERT John Thomas. boys' state Boys' State provided me with a new outlook on government. I learned that the type of gov- ernment we have is successful only if the gov- erned take an active part with the problems at hand. If people are aware of this they will take a more interested view. It worked for meg the more I found out about democracy, the more interested I became. Inspiring speeches, more knowledge of government, and meeting boys like myself in the environment of dignity have left me with a lasting impression of this reward- ing experience. TU '.
