Q 9 Mr. Bittner, assistant principal Mr. Wallin 8L Mr. Hill, counselors guiding us throughout the year Victor Bittner, who is in his ninth year as assistant principal of East, heads the attend- ance oflice and is in charge of discipline. Being the executive secretary of the Big Nine Conference takes a lot of his time also. Even though the conditions at East are crowded, I feel that the students have the sense to adjust, not only to the conditions, but to things affecting themf' commented Mr. Bittner. Concerned with the present while looking ahead to the future might well summarize the work of East's two counselors, Mr. Hill and Mr. Wallin. Testing students, counsel- ing them concerning programs, and assisting seniors in their immediate plans for after graduation are a few of their duties.

This year we have made great strides to- wards our own language laboratory. The study of foreign languages teaches us appreciation of other peoples and their cultures. J. Davis, J. Soha, H. Palas- virta, E. Abbett. Called the language of science, math helps us succeed in the sciences and everyday life. The math department of- fers courses which provide fundamen- tals, as well as college preparation. D. Garnett, H. Brokken, C. Paulson, J. Countryman.
