The marching band performed for all but one football game, providing shows appro- priate to the occasion. For the Heelan and Central games, the bands of both schools HEART formation in honor of the King and Queen of Homecoming. combined for half-time entertainment. The big event of the year was the trip to Marshalltown, where iunior and senior high school bands joined the Eastites to provide a great show for the large Homecoming crowd. You have seen staff members measuring, cutting , thumbing through files, drawing, typing, dic- tating, and doing a hundred other things. Even if you haven'tbeen near the top floor you undoubtedly have had your picture taken or been inter- viewed by one of these Jack-of-all- trades. With all of this activity, the editor, Jarvin Emerson, has quite a job, but the adviser has the voice of experience that lessens the load and pulls the staff out of endless diffi- culties. This year that position was filled by Miss Marjorie Engelbrecht. A long nose finds lots of news . This is the motto that drives the TOMAHAWK staff toward their two main purposes: to give East High students recognition for their ac- complishments in and out of school and to promote good public relations with the students' parents. Pleasing arrangement of pages makes up an important part of the goal the paper strives to reach each time an issue is put out. New reporters second semester were Shirleen Smith and Ilene Heck . Bob Workhoven was signed up as an ad salesman, and Bill Gamet as sports writer . Jim Hall, ad salesman in the fall, was promoted to bus- iness manager at mid-year . The staff do their own work with assistance from Miss Kreutz, who doe s the proof-reading and ably givesadvicewhena problem arises.
