We knew that wc would attend school for four years, and at the time it seemed as though it would last forever, but we were never fully aware of what high school really meant. We knew that we would eventually read the literary classic The Catcher In The Rye, that dissecting frogs was the highlight of required biology, and that Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet was a Ipve story we really wouldn’t mind reading. We were also aware that we would order and receive class rings following the tradition of having friends turn your ring. By rule of the tradition the person who turned your ring last, (in our case the eighty-fourth time), must kiss you. Although we knew all of this we were still unsure of the high school image! As freshmen we were eager to familiarize ourselves with our new surroundings and be a part of all that high school had to offer. We started by electing class officers: Kevin Roche, President; Peter Coyle, Vice-President; Barbara Romano, Secretary; Carmella Leone, Treasurer. We sponsored a teacher studcnt basketball game (teachers won!), and we held bake sales and car washes (common practice for raising money). Many of us involved ourselves in various extra-curricular activities including clubs and sports, while others were concerned with the development of the typical ninth grade social life (learning the uses of the telephone). During the spring several students were involved in the production of Oklahoma, and the band took a trip to Pennsylvania, an activity which was talked about long afterward. Wc ended our first year of high school getting our first taste of final exams (loving every min- is CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT: Jack Dunn, Freshman Year 1980; Kevin Roche, Freshman Class President 1980-1981: Lucy LaPierre. Sophomore Year 1981 ute?), and looking forward to the following year, when we would no longer be the “little kids” of the school. We started sophomore year with both advantages and disadvantages. We knew our way around the school, keeping us from getting lost, but for that reason could no longer blame tardiness on being unfamiliar with where classes were located. During our second year we were led by Timmy Shaw, President; Eileen Murphy, Vice-President; Vicki Ferraro, Secretary; Joann Griffin, Treasurer; Gina Guidonc, Historian. We sold key chains and candy and ordered class rings (Decisions! Decisions!). Sophomore year was unique in its own way. In addition to a protest of school budget cuts in the form of student organized walk out, wc also witnessed the proposed renaming of our town (A rose by any other name would smell as sweet!). When the proposition was ignored, all were pleased; after all not many of us wanted to attend O.H.S.-Ocean-port High School. What would we have been known as? The Oceanport . . . Trouts? One of the most remembered events of the school year was the presentation of Grease by the Drama Club under the direction of Mrs. Webber. The acting was great, as were the singing and dancing. A pleasant time was had by all who attended. Thus, we ended our second year of new and unusual experiences at East Haven High. 19 CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT: Joann Griffin and Gina Guidonc, Halloween Dance 1981 (Sophomore Year): Steven Granata. Senior Year Christmas 1983: Maria Hamilton. Senior Year 1983; Renee Talbot, Junior Prom 1983; Danny McCormick, Freshman Year 1980; Tommy Myjak, Sophomore Year 1981. Soon we were back to begin another exciting and fulfilling year. We were juniors, wishing we were seniors, and beginning what was probably our most important year. A year of change, we were growing up and beginning to look at things differently. It was the year that many of us began to work for the first time and began to drive. Social lives developed and the Monday morning question was no longer “Did you watch the Friday movie of the week?” but “Whose party did you go to?” or “Who did you go out with?” Shoreline Recreation and McDonald’s became favorites of ours. Showcase Cinemas became the theater attended most often and concerts became much more important. Academically students participated in the Yale Model United Nations and North Haven Model Congress, while others were chosen to attend Boys State at Eastern and Girls State at UCONN. The Business Careers, DECA and P.E. clubs became the most popular, and seven students were chosen as Rotary Youths of the Month while twenty-five juniors were inducted into the National Honor Society. Was this not also the year many of us got our first taste of SAT’s? (Wasn’t it great!??) Perhaps the two biggest events of the year were the famous (or should we say infamous) “Great 40 CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT: Chetta King and Sonya Parlato, Junior Year 1982; Martin Da-dio. For all who participated both events were fun and will be remembered for a long time. We ended our junior year anticipating the next, our last. The year that we waited so long for finally arrived. On September 8, 1983, we officially became seniors, what a day it was! The beginning of the year was pretty much like any other year, except we were now upperclassmen. The feeling of being on top wasn’t as we had expected, yet we were glad to be there. Many of us soon began our frantic search for colleges or career opportunities after high school. The hunting and decision making wasn’t fun, but it had to get done, and we all knew that when it was over, we would be glad we did it. Most of us remained involved in whatever activities we had participated in throughout the years, and others decided to just enjoy our last year in school. During the year many good times were shared and often we thought of how quickly it was going by. There were even times that we wished it had gone slower. It was as our last year wound down that wc realized what high school really meant. It was a time not only of learning, but adjusting and preparing. It was a time to experience many new opportunities. Most of all it was a time to enjoy and participate in, a time that one day we could reflect on with not only happiness, but pride. These images of our past will not determine our futures, but they will no doubt affect us, and the more we remember, with more happiness, the better the effect. 41 1984 Superlatives CLASS CLOWN Billy Zampa NICEST EYES Joe Avallone NICEST SMILE Jim Fantin FUNNIEST LAUGH Joe Sortito CHATTERBOX Blake West BEST LOOKING Jim Fantin BEST DRESSED Peter Coyle BEST PHYSIQUE John Taddei TEACHERS’ PET Walter Onacewicz MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Ed Calandrella MOST ATHLETIC Terry O’Brien CLASS SOCIALITE Dave Cascio MOST SHY Anthony Westman ACCOMPLISHED MOST FOR CLASS Timmy Shaw CLASS PERFECTIONIST Blake West MOST GULLIBLE Mark Franco MOST DRAMATIC Scott Luzzi CLASS COMPLAINER Aaron Iuteri MOST DARING Chris Cerrito BEST PERSONALITY Timmy Shaw MOST POPULAR Dave Cascio ftoijjl 1984 Superlatives CLASS CLOWN Joann Panzo NICEST EYES Chetta King NICEST SMILE Wendy McDonald FUNNIEST LAUGH Karen Ricci CHATTERBOX Sonya Parlato BEST LOOKING Lucy La Pierre BEST DRESSED Lisa Boniio BEST PHYSIQUE Angela Mathis TEACHERS' PET Sue Coulombe MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Chris Bouchard MOST ATHLETIC Nancy Lcmbo CLASS SOCIALITE Joann Niro MOST SHY Renee Talbot ACCOMPLISHED MOST FOR CLASS Eileen Murphy CLASS PERFECTIONIST Lisa Bonito MOST GULLIBLE Debbie McHugh MOST DRAMATIC Marlene Burwell CLASS COMPLAINER Kim Ematruda MOST DARING Kris Griego BEST PERSONALITY Julie Pennachini MOST POPULAR Eileen Murphy World History 1980 — 1983 (C) 1982 Universal City Studios, Inc, 44 As high school students we are exposed to many different things. We hear about major events that occur in our town, our country and other parts of the world. We listen to music, watch television and see movies. Our development and growth is a combination of the effect all of these have upon us, in addition to the personal situations that occur. Opinions and ideas arc formed each time we see and hear a little more. However we are involved or affected, directly or indirectly, they are undeniably a part of what we become. Over the past four years we have seen new technological advances. We have witnessed the problems that have occurred in our own nation, and in others as well. Marriages, and deaths alike have made headlines. And we have been exposed to major evnets at the theater, box office, and on television. In May of 1980 a real life disaster occurred. Mount St. Helens, an active volcano in the state of Washington, had a major eruption which was responsible for the deaths or disappearances of 62 people, and spoiled 138,000 acres of land. The volcano erupted eight more times by the end of the year. On December 8, 1980 musician John Lennon was murdered in front of his New York apartment, Dakota. When he and his wife Yoko Ono were entering the building, Mark David Chapman shot and killed Lennon. This tragic event resulted in several days of mourning. Burning candles, praying and crying, fans from all over crowded outside the building. John Lennon, one of the Beatles, was a musical legend in his own time, and now that he has passed, the strength of the legend has grown more forceful than ever. The rock group Pink Floyd released the double LP The Wall in 1980. The shimmering fusion of folk, rock and social satire is considered by many critics and fans alike to be the group’s most ambitious album to date. High on the record charts all year, the LP inspired film director Alan Parker to turn the recording's story into a movie. Cabbage Patch Kids-1983’s most popular Christmas present. One of the most talked about films of the year was Ordinary People. The movie, based on the novel by Judith Guest, marked the directing debut of film star Robert Redford. During its fall rclasc the movie enjoyed little success, but after winning several Academy Awards, including Best Picture, the public flocked to see it. Ordinary People has since become one of the most respected films of recent years. In 1980 the movie to see was Airplane!, a spoof of everything from disaster films to the Girl Scouts. Made on a small budget, it was released in the summer with little advertising. Relying heavily on word-of-mouth publicity, the film became one of the year’s most successful and original comedies. At the end of the year we witnessed the election of a new President. Republican Ronald Reagan defeated Democrat Jimmy Carter in November for the Presidential office. On January 20, 1981, the former film actor and his wife Nancy officially became President and First Lady, just minutes before the 52 American hostages left Tehran on their way to freedom. After 444 days in captivity, an agreement was reached between the United States and Iran for their release. This day was perhaps the most touching of any year as the hostages’ families and the rest of the country celebrated the day the hostages came home. Shortly after President Reagan took office he was wounded in an assassination attempt by John W. Hinckley Jr. Three members of the President’s cabinet were wounded as well. When Hinckley was apprehended, a news story of major interest developed, as he confessed that the assissination attempt was his way of being noticed by film actress Jodie Foster. Foster, a student at Yale University, had been receiving letters from Hinckley prior to the attempt. The letters addressed issues included in the film Taxi Driver, in which Foster starred as a teenager. On February 5 Connecticut Govenor Ella Grasso died at the age of 61. The first woman elected Governor in the U.S., she served two terms in the state. Before her Governorship, she served in the United States House of Representatives. Film star Natalie Wood also died in 1981. On November 29 the 43 year old actress drowned of the coast of Catalina Island. She left behind her two daughters and actor-husband Robert Wagner. With two astronauts aboard, the U.S. space shuttle Columbia successfully completed a 54 hour mission in earth oribt on April 15. The Columbia is the world's first reusable spacecraft. In July 1981 Sandra Day O’Conner became the first woman to be appointed to the Supreme Court. A former judge from Arizona and mother of three. O’Conner took the position and received a great deal of media coverage. On July 29, heir to the British throne Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer. The Royal Wedding was telecast across the country as it occurred. First Lady Nancy Reagan attended the celebration. Another popular wedding was the union of television’s Luke and Laura. The star-crossed lovers of the popular soap opera General Hospital were not only featured on the program, the ceremony was also broadcast on the news and featured in magazines as well. During 1981 many of the films released were action-packed fantasy adventures. Of them. Raiders of the Lost Ark fared best. The teaming of producer George Lucas of Star Wars and director Steven Spielberg proved successful as the film now ranks among the biggest movie blockbusters and earned several Oscar nominations. Another of the year’s more successful films was Arthur. The madcap comedy was a refreshing and entertaining film delight. This was the movie that established Dudley Moore as a major star and earned Sir John Gielgud a well-deserved Academy Award. The Rolling Stones embarked on their final tour which opened at JFK Staidum and ended in December in Washington D.C. The 14 state 24 city farewell did not signify the end of the Rolling Stones, but the beginning of a new time for them. Mick Jaggcr said they would have more time now to concentrate on their music. One of the most exciting developments in the music industry began in August of 1981. MTV Music Television isanexclu sive twenty-four hour rock music video network. The five V.J.’s provide music Michael Jackson's album Thriller became the bestselling LP of all time in 1983. news and interviews, as well as announcing the featured videos. This new era in music not only excited the fans, but also the performers, who are now not only musicians but actors as well. Argentine troops seized the British held Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic on April 2, 1982. The news of the invasion and the happenings in the Falk-lands made new headlines during the entire issue. Roger Daltrey, lead singer of the Who, revealed in an August 20 press conference in New York that although the veteran British rock group intended to continue recording, their upcoming concert tour would be their last. As a result, ticket sales sold out as soon as concerts were announced. Not long after the tour had ended, the Who broke up. The all-female pop group, the Go-Gos, not only dominated the airwaves during the year, but also had a major influence on styles and fashion. The Go-Go “look” was as popular as Beauty and the Beat and Vacation, the group’s two top selling albums. The biggest music event of the year was the US Festival. Proclaimed as the “Woodstock of the ’80’s, the US Festival was held at the Glen Helen Regional Park near San Bernardino in California on September 200,000 spectators came to hear such acts as the Kinks, Fleetwood Mac, the Police, Talking Heads, the Cars, Pat Bcnatar and Santana. The biggest motion picture event ever occurred in 1982 On June 11 Steven Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial opened in theaters across the country. Millions of movie-goers waited in lines for hours and at the end of its first twenty-five days in national release E.T. grossed over $86.9 million. By the time the film finished its theatrical release, one year later, E.T. had become the biggest box-office attraction of all time, earning more than $300 million. Spielberg never expected the movie to become the monster success it was and said he “wanted a creature only a mother could love.” With the success of all the toys, bedsheets, bicycles and the film itself, it seems as though more than just E.T.’s mother loves him. Dustin Hoffman starred in the zany comedy Tootsie late in the year. Hoffman played an unemployed actor who disguises himself as a woman to get a role on a soap opera. Critical praise and a good public response helped Tootise earn over $172 million to date and become the most popular film comedy in history. Although the movie was nominated for 10 Oscars, it was somewhat overlooked by Academy voters. Jessica Lange did manage to be named Best Supporting Actress, however. A wave of fear swept the United States in the early fall of 1982 after seven persons in the Chicago area were killed by Cyanide that had been injected into capsules of the non-perscription pain reliever, Extra-Strength Tylenol. The drug was quickly withdrawn from store shelves while a search began for the culprit. Although the makers of Tylenol were not to blame, the scare affected sales of the drug. By November the Tylenol manufacturers returned the capsules to the shelves in tamper-proof packaging. Princess Grace of Monaco died in a car accident on September 14. Born in Philadelphia, Grace Kelly was an Academy Award winning actress who chose to marry Prince Rainier III instead of furthering her film career. She was 52 years old when she died. After winning his first Academy Award for his performance in On Golden Pond, actor Henry Fonda, 77, died on August 12. The legendary star is best known for his performances in Grapes of Wrath and Mister Roberts. Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev, President of the U.S.S.R. and general secretary of its Communist party died on November 10 at the age of 75. Two days later Yuri Andropov took over as leader of the Kremlin. The 68 year old ex-spymaster of the Soviet KGB is hailed as the first Russian leader to speak and read Eng- lish. Andropov is also a fan of Jacqueline Susann and Chubby Checker. Knoxville, Tennessee was the site for the world’s fair during 1982. It was the first world's fair since 1975 and it marked the first time ever that one was held in the South. 1983 was complete with one unique arrival and at the same time, a sad departure. The arrival was in the form of Boy George, the flashy, carefree cross-dresser who helped Culture Club become one of the most popular sounds of the year. Their albums. Kissing to be Clever and Colour by Numbers enjoyed great success as Boy George himself became a prominent music figure. Culture Club won a Grammy Award as the years Best New Group. The sad departure was that of the television series M A S H. The eleven year run of the series, starring Alan Alda, Loretta Switt, Harry Morgan and Jamie Farr, came to an end in a special movie episode which resolved all the problems with the end of the Korean War and with the characters going their own way. M A S H touched everyone at one time or another and even though it has departed, it remains perhaps the best television sitcom ever. Another television event was the airing of the controversial move The Day After which demonstrated the effects of a nuclear holocaust. After all the media hype, the refusal to air the film by cer- Go-Go s lead singer Belinda Carlisle during the group's 1982 concert tour. 46 Anthony Geary and Genie Francis portrayed Luke and Laura on the popular soap opera General Hospital. tain network affiliates, and various warnings, it turned out that although The Day After was interesting and enjoyable it was most often just a disaster film. When “the day after” arrived the public opinion was mixed, and some viewers have been known to have said that the picture portrayed the aftermath of nuclear war as a mere picnic. 1983 may be remembered as “The year of Michael Jackson.” His LP Thriller sold over 35 million copies and his accompanying videos, “Beat It” especially, have become the years best. In addition to breaking the record as the best-selling album of all time, Jackson took home a record breaking eight American Music Awards. Although he wasn’t as victorious at the Grammy Awards, he did earn many there as well. Jackson tried to break into the Academy Awards this year with his short film Thriller. The 14 minute horror story coast over $1 million to produce and was directed by motion picture director John Landis. The film was shown in a California movie theater to qualify for the Oscars, but Jackson was snubbed by the Academy. The motion picture Flashdance was a very influential film in ’83. Jennifer Beals, a Yale student, made her movie debut in the simple-minded and plotless film. Frowned upon by critics, the public loved the high powered energy and emotionally affecting picture. In addition to earning $90 million at the box-office, the movie’s visual style and musical sounds have already been imitated and it was the inspiration for a new fashion trend, cutoff sweatshirts. The film's title song “Flashdance . . . What a Feeling!” ranked number one for the year and the soundtrack album number three. The most talked about picture of the year was Terms of Endearment. The movie explores the relationship between a mother and daughter in the course of some thirty years. Both Shirley Ma-cLaine and Debra Winger have been critically praised for their performances. as have Jack Nicholson and John Lith-gow. The film succeded not only because of its touching humor, but also because of its affecting emotional appeal as well. In September 269 people, 60 of them Americans were killed on Korean Airlines Flight 007. Soviet missiles shot down the plan believing it to be an espionage flight, when it had strayed more than 200 miles inside the country’s airspace. Many questions regarding the flight remain unanswered, most significantly, why the plane was so far off course. Because there were no survivors, we may never know what really happened, but the tragedy did occur nonetheless. In October, U.S. Marines, Army rangers and paratroopers swept onto the East Caribbean island of Grenada. Their mission was to free Americans imperilled by the leftist thugs who had deposed and murdered Grenada’s Marxist prime min istcr. As the U.N. rang with anti-American cries, Washington insisted that the invaders had arrived in just lime to save Grenada from an utter Castro-Kremlin takeover. Astrophysicist Sally Ride became America’s first woman in space in 1983 on the space shuttle Challenger. An athlete in her youth, she’s a top ranked scholar majoring in English and physics in college Ride is no stranger to space; she is married to astronaut Steve Haw-ley. The year closed as a new rage swept the nation, the Cabbage Patch Kid. Originally designed by Xavier Roberts, the Cabbage Patch Kids, or Little People, come complete with adoption papers and a company sent card on its first birthday. When the dolls were first put on the market by Coleco, people bought them (adopted them rather) like crazy. As the season went on nearing Christmas. Coleco could not keep them in stock. Shortages of the babies developed as longing parents were placed on waiting lists or paid outrageous prices. The Cabbage Patch Kids are computer designed, so that no two are alike. All of the events that have occurred or will occur are not always particularly earth shattering or of major importance to the further development of modern technology. Some are remembered more than others and some ee wish we could forget. Above all. though, they cause something else to happen or continue to happen. They are the situations which cause a result, the images which cause a reflection. 4 In Memoriam Mary Everett January 1922-November 1983 Janet Stopka April 1950-March 1984 Nothing Gold Can Stay Nature's First Green Is Gold, Her Hardest Hue To Hold. Under the direction of Mr. Richard Platt, the High School Bowl Team defeated two-year state champion Amity High School, with a final score of 185-165. Modeled after the College Bowl, the contest follows a game show format sponsored by WTNH-TV channel eight. The show quizzes the student teams on various subjects ranging from English and literature to historical events. In order to prepare for the contests, the team met twice each week for drills on topics that might be used during the actual game. The team attended two preliminary rounds to decide which teams would be on the television broadcast. The first preliminary was a written test taken by sixty schools. The fifty top scorers then competed in the second round which placed East Haven against Sheehan. The Easties won with 240 points and went on to beat Amity in the televised match. For a bid into the final contest, the Easties went up against Ly-me Old Lyme, but lost 200-120. The evening of May 13, 1983 created an image that will not be forgotten by the class of 1984. This night of romance and good times was our Junior Prom. At seven o’clock 90 couples gathered together at the Villa Capri restaurant in Wallingford. Everyone was dressed for the occasion and a tremendous amount of pictures was taken. Our meal was served early and many couples danced until the highlight of our prom- the crowning of King and Queen. Our advisors, Pam Dcmarseilles, Dave Augustine and Meri-Ann De-senti first announced the court: Jim Fantin, Angela Mathis; Michael O’Keefe, Gina Vitale; Timmy Shaw and Debbie Gaudino. Finally, Dave Cascio and Eileen Murphy were crowned King and Queen and led the dance to our prom theme “We’ve Got Tonight”. The prom ended at twelve o’clock, but the celebration continued as many couples attended parties or went to restaurants. A new party began early the next morning with the prom picnics. no Pom-Pom Squad FIRST ROW: Chris Bouchard, Lisa Ames, Gina D'AniclIo, Vincenza Sposc, Cindi Quattlcbaum, Sandy Podsiadlo, Lisa D Amato. This was our Pep Rally, the eve of our annual Thanksgiving game in which East Haven and Branford battled to the finish. Thirteen cheerleaders were busy getting the crowd psyched for the big game as they chanted and encouraged the football team. The Pom-Pom girls performed routines, as did the colorguard. The band also played an important part in the rally providing a good source of entertainment blaring out charges filling the Easties with spirit. When the night ended everyone was psyched for the big game, and all the Easties were hungry for victory. 115 Honor Society FIRST ROW: Karen Ricci, Jackie Adams, Nancy Lembo. LisaMarie Boncck. Coach Andy D’Amato led the team with Terry O’Brien, Tom Martone, Anthony Henry and Don Pizzorusso as captains. The Easties began the season with a big win at Amity 18-12. After being outmanned by the powerhouse Hand team of Madison, the Easties outplayed Sheehan, but lost 6-0, with the ball on the Sheehan 5 yard line as time ran out. With steady improvement week by week, they took Cheshire 26-6, but lost another heartbreaker in an exciting game against North Haven 7-6. Against league champ Seymour, the Yellowjackets played their best football of the season, holding the Wildcats scoreless for three periods. The team was sparked by a 70 yard fumble return by Tom Martone. Entering Thanksgiving, the underdog Yellowjackets played Branford even, trailing only 3-0 at halftime. The Hornets proved too powerful later in the game as the Easties fell 19-0. J 123 Cross- Country FIRST ROW: Natalie Smith, Michelle Poulton, Dcc-Ann Venditto, Joann Hines, Carolyn Venditto. First year coach Susan Badamo led the 1983 cross-country team to a fairly successful season for both the Boys’ and Girls’ teams. Patty Angus was the captain and only senior member of the Girls’ team. Seniors Rich Nargi and John Nerkowski served as captains for the boys. Rich Nargi, John Nerkowski, and junior Ed Jansen were award winners in the New Haven county meet. For the girls, sophomore Natalie Smith, and juniors Roberta Albert and Michele Sullivan were award winners in the New Haven county meet. Four year veteran Patty Angus and freshman Joann Hines also had good seasons. Outstanding runner, sophomore Julie Torre, placed first in the J.V. Shelton Invitational meet, fifth in the varsity New Haven county meet, was elected to the All-Housa-tonic League Team, and presently holds the East Haven High School cross-country record. Both teams advanced to the State Championships. Boy’s 0-9 E.H. For the individual medley and butterfly events the team was dependent on Stacy, a four year letter winner and record holder. Sophomore Marlene Criscuolo and Lynn (also a four year letter winner) were the backbone in all distance events. Junior Jackie Ferriola was the team’s number one diver, assisted by Cindi Granata and Janice Pernal who gave additional depth to the event. The other swimmers, including senior Mary St. Pierre, added strength because of their capabilities of swimming almost any event. Although tTie team finished with a 4-7 record. Coach Louis Anastasio feels the record did not reflect the quality of the team, who showed pride and determination throughout the season. 128 E.H. One of the most exciting games of the season was against Amity, in which Lois Possell scored 14 points in the fourth quarter and Nancy Lembo broke her own school record of 12 steals in one game as a sophomore with a new total of 13. Although there was a great intensity the game was lost 54-49. Other seniors include Cindi Quattlebaum, who pulled down 11 rebounds in the home game against Sheehan, and Mary St. Pierre, who grabbed down 16 rebounds to lead the Easties in a home victory against North Haven and a bid into the C.I.A.C. Captain Ed Lemaire led the team with 36 goals and 36 assists for a total of 72 points. Lemaire also broke the career scoring record; he now totals 182 points. Asst, captain Rich Listro ended a fine career and became the only goalie in Easties’ history to win 34 games in a four year period. Junior Rick Chaddcr-ton, also an Asst, captain, had a rewarding season as well. The team consisted of seven seniors, including Mike O’Keefe, Mike Tra-vaglino, Joe Avallone, Jim Grasso and Rich Murgo, who helped with their fine play, and provided leadership to the younger team members. The players can be extremely proud of their 14-6 record; for a successful team, everyone must contribute their all, which the Easties did. During the work on this project we encountered many obstacles that caused many headaches. It has taken a tremendous amount of time and effort, more than I had anticipated. Although it was rarely ever fun and was sometimes a major burden, it has provided me with valuable experience and has taught many lessons which I am glad to have learned. Of all the difficult chores involved in this book’s production, this remains the hardest. Thank you to Mr. Bruce Dupuis, our Jostens A-merican Yearbook representative who was so very patient and understanding during our project. Thanks to Mr. Sal DeRosa, Mr. Ralph Prete and Mr. Ralph Prete Jr. who took many of the senior portraits. Thank you to Loring Studios for many candid and sports photos as well as for several portraits. Also, Stacy Ioveino and Walter Perron who contributed many candid photos which were used throughout the book. I would like to express my appreciation also to Mr. Frank Meoli for his time and patience in taking the activities and many of the sports photos. Thanks to everyone who helped in all areas of work: Robert Henry for his artwork; the staff at the Trolley Museum; Mrs. Reynolds, and Mrs. Mierze-jewski for the use of the typing facilities; Miss Croll for her work in the Media Center; Mr. Graver, and Mrs. Melillo for their help; Mrs. Affinito, Mrs. Brustman, and Mrs. Frank for their interest and understanding; all of the coaches and club advi-sors-their assistance helped to make the job easier. To Mrs. Peduzzi and Mrs. Vitale for helping in the proofreading of our poems and articles, and especially Mrs. Dempsey whose time and efforts in helping with our essays is greatly appreciated— thank you all. To staff members Dolores Grosso for her work on the senior layouts and Scott Thomas for his work on the advertisements- many thanks. The greatest thanks to Marlene Burwell and Eileen Murphy. Marlene willingly and successfully undertook many time consuming and aggravating responsibilities and Eileen spent endless hours organizing and typing the Senior section and the Index. Both of them helped to make the job a little easier and much more enjoyable. Finally a very special thank you to Mr. Bob Proto for all his help and encouragement. He has helped during many difficult times and I am grateful. Once again, thank you to everyone- without you it would have been impossible.
