Administration The guiding head of our school system is the administration. This organization of vastly experienced professionals does its level best to bring a well-rounded education to the students of the East Haven School System. Dr. George Barbarito, Superintendent of Schools, is concerned with concentrating on the basics; giving the students a stronger background in English and Mathematics. He also feels that the education of a student includes the student along with his teachers, parents, and church, not just the one-to-one basis between the student and teacher. He and his competent staff which includes Mr. Michael Zito; Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Robert Carbone, Mr. Angelo Esposito, Mr. Philip Madonna, Mr. Vincent Prato, Mr. Joseph Melillo and the members of the Board of Education make an extreme effort to offer the finest education around. English Mr. Roger Shapiro, the English Department chairman, describes the staff of English teachers as a group of “extremely competent people who are striving to reach their teaching goals.” Members of the department organize and advise many extra-curricular activities: Creative writing, Mrs. Dempsey; the school newspaper, Mr. Augustine; Drama Club, Mr. Scaramella; and the Pioneer, Mr. Meoli. The Creative Writing Club publishes a literary magazine, Twig which contains stories and poems submitted by the students from the club and the English classes.
