Our superintendent, Dr. John A. Langford, has contributed eight years of service to the continuous growth and improvement of East Hartford Schools, a service that has earned the respect, admiration, and faith of the citizens and students of East Hartford, as well as a hope that Dr. Langford will continue his service to educa- tion in the school system of East Hartford. ffifk U X M., Dr. Langford taking notes during one of his many visits to our school. Mr. Francis Paquette, our assistant to Dr. Langford, is the man behind the scenes in the school department. In charge of the business, cafeteria, custodial, and secre- tarial departments of the East Hartford schools, he sees that facilities of all buildings are functioning correctly. Mr. Paquette was chairman of the school building com- mittee when East Hartford High School was planned and built. Our thanks goes, in part, to him for our beautiful and func- tional buiding. DR. Cameron, Karl Kurth, William J. Murphy. C MARY F. CONROY Resigning Chairman of the Board The year 1957 saw the resignation of Mrs. Mary F. Conroy who served faithfully and energetically on the East Hartford Board of Education for twelve years, the last six of which she was Chairman of the Board. As Secretary of the School Building Committee for seven years, she played a maior role in the dynamic East Hart- ford school building program, with the wise and prudent investment of some Sl l,000,000 in new school facilities. During Mrs. Conroy's tenure of office, the East Hart- ford school system experienced its greatest period of growth, from a pupil population of 4,000 in i945 to 8,600 in 1956-57. ln June of l957, Mrs. Conroy was named by the Connecticut Association of School Boards as one of the four outstanding members deserving honorary recogni- tion for her leadership and service to education. Mrs. Conroy is respected throughout the community and is held in high esteem and admiration. Those who have worked with her have been inspired and encouraged by her calm, dignified approach to problems even under the most trying circumstances, and have felt confident and secure in the feeling that she would deal fairly and wisely with the situation whether it be a routine one or one which presents a real challenge.
