Girls' Hockey The Greenies had a rather successful season with very good playing in all the games. The girls Won four of their games, lost four and tied two. The best game of the season was the game played with and at Pennsburg when our girls tied the score lel. The only game de- layed by bad weather conditions was that played with Schwenksville on Nov. ll. Otherwise our girls were favored by cold, brisk days. The whole team played Well this season but special credit goes to several members of the hockey eleven. Betty Baseley, left Wing position, scored six of the total 21 points scored in all the games. Doris Christman scored seven points and Gloria Christman tallied up five. Marilyn Staulfer and Shirley Schlicher are given credit for the remaining number ol points. How- ever, it would have been impossible for these goals to have been made if they had not been backed by the excellent playing of every member of the team. The front line consisted of Betty Baseley, Betty Wiegner, who alternated at inners, Marilyn Stauffer, Doris Christrnan, Gloria Christman, and Shirley Schlicher. They were backed up in the defensive positions by Phyllis I-lillegass, Kitty Hendricks, Mary Lou Zwoyer, Lillian Stahl, Nancy Kern, and Anna Lynch. 40

Football A hard fighting, but small and inexperienced East Greenville High School football team fought its way through a tough schedule to come through with a record of 3 wins and 7 losses. They tied for second place in the Montco B League. The Greenies lost their first game to Quakertown under the lights at Quakertown by a 13-U score. ln the next game the Yellow Iackets who were not playing up to par lost to a not too strong Wyomissing team by a 21-13 score. These defeats did not discourage the team. They came back to win over Collegeville and Schwenksville by a 19-U and 26-6 scores. After these two victories the Greenies faced a strong Norco team, and lost a heart breaker to this team by a close margin of 7-6. This defeat did not take the spirit out of the boys, for after this they traveled to West Pottsgrove to defeat an underestimated Falcon foe by a tight 7-6 score. On November 1 Lady Luck turned her back to E. G. H. S. On this day the Yellow Iackets lost to a neighboring underdog Pennsburg team by the score of 15-7. This unexpected defeat took the wind out of the Greenies' sail. The following Week they lost a 19-6 thriller to Em- maus but they did not lose their fighting spirit. An injury riddled team, not having enough men left on its squad to hold a scrimmage, played host to the 1946 champions of the Montco B League, Royersford. At half time of this game the Greenies had held their opponents to a 14-14 tie but in the second half the Eagles sparked to a 33-14 victory. E. G. H. S. then played host to Boyertown in the traditional Turkey Day game. In this game the Bears squeezed out a 13-7 victory over the Yellow Iackets. 'Q Mr. Pritchard assisted by Mr. Guldin, took over the coaching duties, and through their leader- ship the team had shown great improvement. lt is expected that the fine coaching of these two men will bring to E. Basketball This year for the first time in the history of East Greenville High School, the E.G.l-l.S. Cagers had a gymnasium they could call their own. Since the court was not completed at the time scheduled, the Greenies and their new coach, Mr. Guldin, got off to a late start. The Greenies were overpowered by their lirst few opponents. They took these lacings with- out losing their spirit or Sportsman-like ways. The team gradually improved and came back to give every team they met a tough time, and left memories of well-played and hard-fought games to many sports-loving spectators. Most of the scoring honors went to the underclassmen. Richard Ziegler had 126 points. Rich- ard Leister had 61 points. Raymond Stoneback had 43 points.
