?4.....A. From The President's Office While education is limitless, the individual has limitations. The faculty and staff of Emanuel County Junior College believe that we must teach you, the individual. to be free of your limitations if you are to develop your highest potential and to become a better person than you otherwise would have been. Our philosophy of education is to teach and improve the individual as an individual. You can develop your unique potentialities only if you are taught to think for yourself and if you are willing to read and study accordingly. In stressing the peculiar and unique attributes of the individual while simultaneously emphasizing a common culture shared by all, the college must insure that all students receive a liberal arts education. To this end you are offered a spectrum of subjects ranging from English compsotion and literature to the sciences. the arts, and business. ln order to succeed in the goal of attaining an excellent education, you must value individual achievement. You must set and follow ideals and standards, you must accept responsibility for your education and life. and you and you alone must develop the self-discipline necessary to accomplish your goals in life. There are always doubts and fears regarding the present and future, but it is reassuring to note that these same doubts and fears are not new. Little did Charles Dickens realize that his words would have as much meaning in the 20th century as during his time of the I8th century. lt was the best of times. it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness. it was the epoch of belief. it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light. it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of dispair, we had everything before us. we had nothing before us . . .
