Sophomores Adjust To High School Routine It's kind of fun being a sophomore. It seems as if we are looked down on, but we are adjusting to the high school atmosphere. The month of September was really hectic. No one knew where to go and we were afraid to ask because we knew upperclassmen would send us in the wrong direction. High school is a lot different from junior high and we are starting to feel at home. We feel intelligent talking about geometry and biol- ogy until we hear a senior talking about chemistry and trigonometry. We're going to try to be one of the best classes East Gaston has ever had. We've come a long way together from being scared sophomores, to getting ready for the prom, and finally to being seniors. The class of 1983 has shown East Gaston what spirit really is. Through the good times and the bad ones, this class has stuck together. As graduation draws closer, and as friends draw closer together, we hang on to the memories of yesterday. We will be going our separate ways. Some will go to collegeg some will join the armed forcesg others will marryg but whatever your decision may be, as your president l wish you all the luck in the world. My fellow seniors, remember that we will always be a family and the class of 83! Crist founded the Southern Dyestuff Company, Sodyeco, with an idea. Sulfur dyes could be fully reduced and sold economically as color-fast, ready-to-use liquids. Today, nurtured by innovative research and highly talented, dedicated people, the Sodyeco Division of Martin Marietta has developed over 200 colorful dyeing ideas. From liquid sulfur dyes to low-cost vat dyes for cotton. Disperse dyes for polyester. And organic specialty chemicals for a variety of industries. Tomorrow you will continue to see a company progressing with new and colorful concepts while maintaining old-fashioned values for quality products and science. That's the Sodyeco story in black and white. And color! Sodyeco Division, Martin Marietta Chemicals, P.O. Box 33429, Charlotte, NC 28233. We hope the hours of labor we have put into this book will pay off in your enjoyment. Each stu- dent has individual memories of his days at East Gaston, but there are group memories shared by all - memories of faces, places, and events. These memories we have tried to capture in picture and print. Our days here are preparation for the future, building the future, but each day has been a vital part of our growing up. We express our thanks to the following groups and individuals who, though not on the staff, played an important role in the making of this book. Students and faculty members who purchased the book. Faculty members who cooperated with information, suggestions, and understanding of deadline demands. Our advertisers and patrons whose financial contributions enabled us to publish. Mrs. Cline and her students who assisted with typing and bookkeeping chores. Mr. Bob Thompson for a great deal of photographic work and many errands for the annual. Mr. Moody and Mr. Eldridge for assistance with art work. Tim McCall for a drawing. Mr. David Hutto, Ms. Dianne Ellis and the Gastonia Gazette for several photographs. Angie Gentry and Cindy Suddreth for allowing us to use their homes for picture-taking. Barbizon School of Modeling and Mr. John-Boy Isley for selecting the Beauties. Mr. Lewis and Mr. Lackey of Delmar Printing Company for their work. 224 f Farewell 1 B0 My I fs be mae NNW YM +I, FMP A-J-15 y My J-0 :CQ vw 'WU' VM AZA' f4La,mlo!
