Vigor and Vitality | Service With a Smile | Sherry Triplett The hub of almost all spirit- minded activities of any school are its cheerleaders. To smile when the home team is losing is a hard job, but the East cheer- leaders have done so through the many victories as well as defeats. The mechanics of the cheers are sometimes difficult and the girls spend much time practicing. They are the gist of all pep rallies and most of the spirit boosting banners are painted and hung around campus by the bubbling young ladies in the blue and white uniforms. In any game, spectators must boost the team, and our cheerleaders do the job of boosting the spectators. However, this is sometimes a hard and thankless job. The Eagle cheer- leaders give of their time, talents, and spirit to make their team one to be proud of, for they are proud of it, and we are proud of them. CROSS-COUNTRY TEAM Ultimate Test of Endurance Hours and days of practice— country leaders, Steve Summerford running and more running, not for and Mike Fulp, paced the team the sake of skill, but for over hills, through gulleys, on endurance, the ability to keep turf and on concrete. Only the running that last stretch. Cross- strongest place near the front and country is the sport of burning the Eagles know what it is like to lungs, dripping brows, and be there. Also returning from last pounding chests. Two of the cross- year’s team to set the pace for the new members were Mitch Stevens, Daniel Martin, Glenn Reeves, Frank Scott, Jigger Webb, and Tim Montgomery. East finished well in many meets and for their determination and dedication, they have proven the might of the Eagles. The start is important in any race and to get out in front then increases chances to stay there. As seen here, the Ea gles have learned this and are putting it into practice. FRONT ROW Dennis Ferris, Steve Summerford, Mike Fulp. SECOND ROW Frank Scott, Jigger Webb, Mitchell Stevens, Randy Whicker. THIRD ROW Glenn Reeves, Gary Idol, Mike Marion. FOURTH ROW David Hauser, Hunter Atkins, Mike Shelton. BACK ROW Daniel Martin, Tim Montgomery, Bobby Arrington, David Smith. Pounding turf on that last stretch. . : “ Me 4 , 195
