Reflection—the Soul’s Perspective Glass 3 y = : : ) | | Volume ete 197 0 AQUILA Reflection is looking back seeing the answers-- answers drifting into who what when where In Memoriam To Horace G. Nelson His spirit is with us yet, caught in the clenched fists of hundreds whose lives have been brightened by the flame of his torch. A memory, an idea remains but the best is lost, for he was taken in the prime of his life, in the full strength of his years, and the void of his departure shall not soon be forgotten. These gracious halls shall feel his tread no more but they cannot forget his influence upon those who sat at his feet. We shall not forget this man for he has left his mark upon us in a world that cries out for dedicated men who ask only that they serve. Dedicated to a man ing d heartaches who by remember the joys an h ts own yout of h helped to develop the youth of today to mature adults of tomorrow... un Mr. John D. Withrow Dedicated To John D. Withrow Remember me after we have gone away gone far away to some distant land when we no more can walk hand in hand this memory free of contamination is an exquisite treasure a beautiful source of pure refreshment There appears always a black spot in our sunshine — it is the shadow of ourselves Follow a shadow; it glides before you fly above one; it pursues you A soul without reflection is like a book without words The scholar reflects before he speaks while the fool speaks and then reflects on what he has said KAS ) : ts CLI Like Yo Oe og. Although they did not gain a berth in the 4-A finals, this loss came from the flip of a coin and not from playing ability, for East’s gridiron skill was verified time and time again. After endless hours of practice under a broiling summer sun, the. East Eagles faced their first conference opponent, Winston-Salem Atkins, well prepared, both offensively and defensively. Although East was not favored highly, the Eagles upset the Camels for their first conference win. However, it was on this night that East’s dire plague of injuries began. Atkins downed the Eagles starting quarterback, Bruce Robbins, and he was unfortunately assisted off the field with a broken arm. Junior Warren immediately re- placed Robbins as quarterback, and almost instantly, Atkins removed Warren from East’s roster for the night. Finally, in stepped Randy Beeson, who sent on to prove that it is skill, not size, that attributes to a player’s worth, No one player was the sole factor in East’s many vic- tories, for the Eagles operated effectively as a team, and it was this outstanding teamwork that accounted for East’s triumphs. The Eagles soared after their Atkins victory, going on to win game after game. East played hard and well in their decisive game with Reynolds, earning the respect of the Reynolds’ coach. Although this game resulted in a slight marginal victory for Reynolds, it was East’s only con- ference defeat, and the 4-A position was split between Atkins, Reynolds, and East. Atkins went off to the 4-A finals, but nineteen sixty nine will be known in East football annals as the year we lost by the flip of a coin. 176 Up, up and away... NFL material?
