The Highlights of Another Sport Now that everybody has thaw- ed out from the chills of outside sports, namely football, indoor sports begin as the doors are opened for basketball. As the team comes onto the court and does some fancy warm-ups, the cheerleaders get the fans’ at- tention with a victory cheer, possibly even “Battle Cry.” Fast moving is this game of bas- ketball where skill, daily drills, quickness, and a prayer for a little luck are all important. This year the Eagles may have been classifeid as small in size, but they were big in ability. And each player gave of his very best—in the game itself and in sportsmanship. Never did they give up or settle for less than the best. DE aba sy OM iar sg yy Wei Aaitcrrgiins.

That Balanced Effort Puts East On Top MT. AIRY The Mighty Eagles opened this season with a big win over Mt. Airy 71-64. A show of balanced scoring and good ball handling made the pre-season practices well worthwhile. GREENSBORO SMITH East outscored Smith in the fourth quarter to set up an Eagle victory, 60-50. The teams exchanged hot quarters making it “nip and tuck” to the final bell. REYNOLDS The first quarter gave Reynolds a lead that not even the tough Eagles could break. East, however, did not give up at this deficit but continued to give the Demons a real battle. St eve Roberson ended with a magnificent performance of 22 points. The final score was 67-52. East’s spirit supports a number ONE team. Mr. Jack Blaylock, Head Basketball Coach. — Managers: Dennis Greenwood, Danny Brannock, and Aldean Hartman. 151
