BURLINGTON Outstanding pass plays opened the Eagles’ season with an up- set win over the 4-A favorite, Burlington Williams. Perfect - a bs teamwork set the final tally at 12-9. Soaring High is the ATKINS A number two victory came for the Eagles as they rolled over Atkins Camels at Bowman Gray. The 35-6 results came from arsity Football Team passes by Wayne Eller to Webb Chambers and Ronnie Champ- ney, and a pass interception by Bill Neal. Touchdown pass—and away he goes!

Karr, Barger, Charles and Eller make 4-A Team NORTH The Eagles could not seem to get the team rolling as the big rival from North handed East a 14-0 defeat at Bowman Gray Stadium. SMITH Warren Karr scored twice in a rally that almost beat Greensboro Smith. The score was tied 20-20 until Smith made a 21-yard touchdown run. REYNOLDS The Eagles played host to the RJR Demons, who defeated them 23-7. A pass to Bill Neal gave the Eagles their only touchdown. PAGE East’s homecoming game with the Page Pirates echoed cheers throughout the stadium as the mighty Eagles buried the Pirates’ treasure with a 28-12 win. WEST When the Eagles played West, all strength and accuracy was evident as four touchdown passes totaled the points to a 46-26 victory for East. . GRIMSLEY The final game of East was played at home against Grimsley. Outstanding running and passing ability gave the Eagles a 28- 13 win. A 23-member team was picked by the coaches and Journal- Sentinel sportswriters to represent the All-Central 4-A team. Those making the team for East were Warren Karr who gained over 900 yards, Wayne Eller with a total of 1,980 yards in passing, Mike Barger who played linebacker on defense and Ronnie Charles, a center as well as middle guard.
