C. 27284 VOLUME 4 East Forsyth Senior High School Route No. 3, Kernersville, North Carolina oo A Man To Match His “n x S = © = From the ocean comes forth tumultuous currents, tides ebbing and flowing, waves rising and breaking and shores filled with tiny imprints of Life itself... From the earth rich in mineral value, comes the mighty oak, a tree towering above all others, wearing the effect of Time on its aging bark, changing cos- tumes with the seasons; yet through rain, sleet, snow, or sunshine, somehow it survives. From the natural ore, carbon, comes forth the dia- mond; a stone that when chiseled and crystallized to perfection becomes a very rare and precious min- eral, each facet radiating a brilliant array of argent sparkles. From a mound of clay comes forth Man, created in the image of God. God breathed Life into Man’s nostrils and Man became a living being. Mr. Carl Lewis Clarke In Man’s chest, God placed a heart. It beats to a crescendo to an unknown tune, written by an unknown composer. Man’s heart hoards a mysterious graveyard for Yesterday’s treasured memories, placing mon- uments where outstanding memories now lie motion- less. In Man’s head, God placed a brain—the nucleus of Man’s existence, his excuse for his failures or the motivating force of his accomplishments; a tiny struc- ture so tiny in stature yet so very complex in its inter- nal make-up, and priceless in its contribution to Man- kind. Through. the annals of Time there have been men that we will long remember, maybe because they are as challenging as the ocean, as staunch as the tradi- tional oak, or as rare and valuable as the precious dia- mond. East Forsyth has such a Man that we will long remember, for besides the preceding reasons... “He is a Man to match his mountains.” A Time For Everything There is a time for everything, A time for thinking, planning, Preparing, developing, creating, Fulfilling, and a chance for Growing-spiritually, physically, And mentally. With gradu- ation, we have come upon the summit. We have survived the four seasons, overcome wayward ob- jects blocking our view of the hilltop, mentally and physically matured in body and mind, and developed definite personality traits to help us distinguish right from wrong. But now, in reaching the summit, and looking all around us, we find that we have just begun to climb. Lexington East led 14-7 at the half, but two fumbles in the last half led to paydirt for Lexington. Page With Ned Mabe scoring two touchdowns, East overpowered Page for a 34-18 home- coming victory. West Forsyth East started strong with a 7-0 lead over West but failed to add to their touchdown in the first half and found themselves down 14-7 at halftime. East scored again, but missed the conversion, deciding the final score. High Point High Point’s 14-0 lead hampered East’s second half play as they failed to match two more High Point touchdowns in a 26-0 defeat. Parkland East and Parkland exchanged second quarter touchdowns for a 6-6 half-time score. Then a thrilling last quarter was deadlocked at 13- 13 after giving up 7 more points apiece. Grimsley Although East played without having a penalty called against them, Grimsley scored the only touchdown to defeat East 7-0. Coach Clarke decides on Eagle strategy during a football game. Coaches decide on East’s next move as resting players cheer on their teammate Ned Mabe finds himself hemmed in as Ronnie Shouse helps out. Smith Despite a scoreless first-half, East broke away to secure a 20-0 lead over Greensboro Smith. Ronnie Vineyard clears the way as an East runner follows close behind. Steve Blaylock takes time out to catch a few winks, as North failed to put up much of a fight. Once again North proves that they’re always “on the outside looking in.” East Forsyth, before the season began, was rated “the” team to beat in the class 4-A conference division. Getting off to a slow start, East’s populari- ty staggered, btit showing the depth and poise that they are noted for, East won it’s way back into a prominent position in the con- ference race. As the season ends, East is number five, barely edged out of fourth place by Grimsley. In appreciation to the faculty and student body of East High School for their co-operation and ever-exuberant spirit in helping create my desire to publish an annual to capture the wonderful year of 1965-1966. In appreciation to the year 1965-1966 for giving us not only sunshine, but also for giving us rain, for not only giv- ing us laughter, but also tears, and for giving us a chance to work, play, create, mold friendships, and relive happy memories when the year is over. 186 | Tears and Laughter Our birth into this already well-established world brought joy to our loved ones and our passing away will bring sorrow to even more people. A frame-work of Tears and Laughter form a bridge between these two famous landmarks. In the first six years of our lives, the tools necessary to build our bridge were gathered up and ready to be put in use. Our high school days form the very core of the backbone of our bridge. With our high school days, come many feelings new to our ever expanding minds. Tying these experiences together once again, are Tears and Laughter. Tears that purify our hearts and reveal to us the secrets of life and its mystery, Laughter that causes mere acquaintances to become life-long friends; Tears with which we join and mend broken hearts, Laughter we share over foolish things we could never find a valid reason for having done in the first place; Tears that were shed in the agony of our defeats, Laughter that makes each precious vic- tory complete; Tears with which we let out pent-up emotions over disappointments and failures. Through our joys and sorrows, tears and laughter, our high school days are molded. One by one, each class leaves this House of Memories and through adequate prepara- tion, we must attempt to make realities out of our life-long dreams, nevermore to return to our carefree days of youth. All too soon our framework is finished. We cannot go back and rebuild it. We are youth but once, and once we leave these hol- lowed halls of cherished memories our high school days become a fragment of Yesterday, to look back on with loving recollections of our Golden Years of Youth. And in the midst of our memories, standing out above every thing else, will be the Tears and Laughter that made our high school days complete. With hope in our hearts, we must greet Tomorrow. For knowing that memories are the most precious gifts in the world, we shall store them in our hearts, to take out every now and then to remind us of the Tears and Laughter that brought us where we are today.
