Tack We knew that they would always be there to talk to, even though at times we really didn't want to listen. We know now that everything you did was for our benefit. The unending sacrifices, just for the love of your children. As we sit and ponder in our reflections, we think of the most inspiring people in our lives—our parents. This dedication is for the people we needed the most—the people who stood through good and bad with us—the people who were there to show us the way through all their experiences and wisdom. Their support and guidance showed us their trust in whatever we did. Their pride in our achievements, their understanding when we disappointed them—we felt all these. Their unending patience in accepting our faults—setting examples for us to follow all through life. This dedication is for our parents. You are the ones who inspired us the most. We didn't show it sometimes, but we want you to know now. We appreciate everything that you have done for us. All the times we forgot to say Thank you , or I love you , you knew it anyway. We want to say now that I love you and I need you. Thank you for all your giving and advice. Surely you know our need for you will never end. This group of children was The Class of '85 . This day began the next years of our lives at East Forest. These years were our time for growing, learning, and fun . Many long-lasting friendships began this year. First grade was exciting because it was the first time for most of us to ever be in the school. This year marked the beginning of the girls' infatuation with Steve Miller. We had quite a few additions to our class this year. In Second grade we had split classes. Mrs. Hepinger had one half of the class and Miss Jantz had the other half. Love and hate letters were found in many desks. In Third grade we did the play Three Billy Goats Gruff and the bridge broke. The girls caught the fever for high-heeled shoes. They also caught the fever for Pete Flechsig. In Fourth grade we began changing classes. Many students were given the chance to show off their musical talents by playing the tonet in band class. In Fifth grade we were introduced to Big Bertha . We will never forget the day that Mr. D. broke the paddle over his desk. This year Kevin Fecket blessed our class with his presence. He made our classes very interesting. And who could forget Salmon Creek and fried crawfish. In Sixth grade we were at the top of the ladder. One day the whole class became an added attraction in the hall because we were late from the restrooms. We went to Sea World for our last elementary field trip. In Seventh grade we were pushed back to the bottom of the ladder. We went to Drake's Well this year. The dark map room held a special interest to the couples of our class. Many of our classmates feared the wrath of the dreaded SENIORS. Detention was in style. Sally and Sharon received their nicknames—Moose and Elk. In Eighth grade we went to Kinzua Dam. The bus trip was interesting for most. Our Junior High basketball team won only one game. It was a good year for dances. Candy gained a fascination for older men. Eggs were popular, especially on picnic day. In Ninth grade renovations began on the school. We went to History Day in Clarion. A few of us went on to Hershey. The guys that went to Hershey showed off their talents by serenading some girls at the hotel. In Tenth grade the renovations of school were almost complete. Many of our classmates began Vo-Tech. We received our class rings. During Honor America there was a talent show. Two of our girls showed who had the talent in our class: Lorie and Tammy won first place for their twirling ability. Buster kept his end of the bargain at a basketball game. In Eleventh grade our Boys' Basketball team made it to the play-offs. There was a Junior-Senior football game to break the monotony of school. The Prom theme was Arriverderci Roma, and the gym was elaborately decorated with Roman pillars, large scrolls, purple streamers, and a birdbath as the center piece. At the prom the lights went out. And who could forget Mr. Dreihaup and our Chemistry classes. Here's where our story ends, we're now back at the top of the ladder. The year began with our Senior Dance, which was a big success—not to mention the fun we had. We then went soliciting yearbook ads. We all had fun and gained a large profit. We sold 44 pages of ads. Our big fund raiser was the Senior kits. This year was quite different without one of our classmates, Dennis Crawford. Both of the basketball teams had a chance at the play-offs. We've shared many tears and laughs over the years and will miss the friendship and closeness that we shared. We realize that after we leave our lives will change and we'll change. Many of us will go on to college, some will join the Armed Forces, some will try to find work, and some will marry. We'd like to extend our congratulations to LeAnne, Julie, and Donna P. on their upcoming weddings. We will all miss the security of high school and the carefree lives we led throughout high school. The last month of our Senior year will be filled with great fun. First will be our Washington, D.C. trip, then the Prom—which we thank the Juniors for giving us—and then one of the most exciting, yet terrifying days of our lives ... GRADUATION. This year at Graduation we will have Co-Valedictorians, Renee and Candy, and the Salutatorian will be Chris. We wish the best of luck to the classes that will follow us, and we hope that their years at East Forest are as fun as ours were. To all our friends we wish happiness and success. 7 Michael Douglas Gore Nicknames: Michael G, Michael Do. Goals after high school: Go to college, get out of college, get married, and be happy. The Bear facts Staff felt that the students at East Forest should take an active Interest in the Presidential and state candidates for elected offices. Thus, we decided to sponsor our very own Mock lection. With help from the Democratic and Republican Parties, we had people portraying the perspective views of President Reagan and of Walter Mondale. The two respective parties also furnished signs, pins, and propaganda to aide In our election preparation. The actual election was held In Mr. Albaugh's room and classes were called one by one to vote. The actual voting took less than one hour and the ballots were counted by twelve o'clock. All in all, the mock election was a big success and we are thankful for the participation and interest shown. Many of us were trying to make the best of a bad situation and make the best of it we did! Mr. Kemble and his juniors put much work into 1984's prom and their efforts must be congratulated. The theme lavishly portrayed Rome with its majestic pillars and Roman inscriptions. The ta- ble settings consisted of white tapered candles surrounded by orchid, white and lavender flow- ers. A glance around the room depicted a gleam- ing bird bath, the setting arrangements for the crowning of the king and queen, and the photo taking area. All of these were colorfully accented with purple streamers. The highlight of the evening was at 10:00 p.m. but, a short time before an electrical storm caused a power failure and the use of the emergency lighting was necessary. Spectators, despite the bad weather, anxiously awaited the crowning of the king and queen. The court consisted of Gary Schrecengost, Lisa Pedder, Todd Nicklas, Tracie Uzelac, and crowned King and Queen were Kraig Gaston and Lissy Rodgers. Malissa Hollis Amy Saxon Sherry Petrycki Melissa Kuhl This was the first year that we've had a squad for both the girls' and boys' teams. The squads are smaller than in other years, but with much hard work we've overcome the problem of size. The boys' squad is made up of four seniors and a sophomore. The girls' squad is made up of three sophomores and a freshman. We held our annual flower sale in February. Some of the profit from the sale was used to buy flowers on Parent's Night for both the Boys' and Girls' B- ball teams. In the pep assemblies we tried a few new things to TRY TO BOOST the pep of our fans. We had Mr. Wolbert, two girls, and two boys do a cheer with us. The band played in a couple assemblies. We had the fans try to raise the SPIRIT OF E.F. We tried very hard to get the fans going, and thank those who did participate. Over-all, the season was great. We've had a lot of fun cheering for our teams. We want to wish the coaches and the teams good luck next year. Also, we'd like to express our thanks to our advisors, Mr. Kemble and Miss Copenhaver. 117 CHEERLEADERS LETTERMEN Senior Tammy Robinson Senior Lorie Cook Sophomore Amy Saxon Senior Candy Cochran Senior Leanne Carbaugh Sophomore Kelli Gruey ★ ★★★★ j East Forest Boys J Return 4 Starters Basketball I review ::z: East Forest Girls “With our strong nucleus of returning players, we are look- ing forward to a fine season, barring unusual circumstances — injuries, teachers’ strikes, etc,” says coach Kerry Wolbert. Making the playoffs is only the Bears’ second goal — the first is to do their best always and the third is to have fun. But qualifying for the playoffs may tougher this year than last for the Bears because only two independents in the district are eligible. East Forest would have had five starters back, but one of the others, Dennis Crawford, moved to Philadelphia. Dick Hetrick, a 5-11 Junior, and Eric Long, a 5-9 sophomore, also will see a lot of action, Wolbert says. “We are also hop- ing for added depth from Juniors Todd Huth, Brad Long, Tim Kimmel and Matt Cochran, and some of our younger players. Mark Snyder, Frank Petrilla, Doug Corbin, Chad Weaver abd Chris Van fjort may also help.” Despite the Bears’ lack of size, Wolbert believes his team will baye a stronger front line this year than last. Luden and An- drews were both UAVL All-Star selections last year. Those four are expected to eventually be joined in the start- ing lineup by 5-6 junior Jackie Sullivan, who is recovering from a foot injury.
