J Gris Melvin Randall Penny G. UK Betty OUR CLASS HISTORY When you try to go back to the beginning of our history, it just seems like 12 short years ago that we were just beginning. From the first day of school until now, there are so many things that have happened; many we wish to forget. In 1965, 39 little, frustrated children started on the old road to knowledge. In 1st grade we were seperated and thus created rivalries. It would have almost been a normal first year if it wasn’t for Newt. Unfor- tunately, his brother sprayed him with a hose before he came to school one day. 2nd grade wasn't much comfort to us. Mrs. Irwin tried to make it easy on us; with little success. Anyway, we were all together now. 3rd grade was nice for most. It was the last year for Miss Mathews. For enjoyment, one day Terri swallowed a dime before lunch. 4th grade was something for us all. Many interesting invents occured with the going of Miss Mechling(Mrs. Furnish) and the arrival of Mrs. Haw- kins. That year we were blessed by the presence of Rita Campbell's remarks, Mr. Sands, and the mealworms. 5th grade brought comedy as well as knowledge. Just about everyone of us remembers Jim S. and Tom R.'s run-in with Mr. Deffenbaugh. 6th grade was more of an adventurous year than anything. Most remember the ordeal between Ter, Rob, and Mr. Guiler, Lissie's hiccups at Penn State, our court, and of course The Lucky 13 . Our trip to Niagara Falls highlighted the year. There was a great transition between 6th and 7th grade. As we were once the kings of the Elementary, we were now the pits of the High School. We were so happy to be big 8th graders. We now had the 7th graders to boss around; and we did. 9th grade brought us to the stopping of initiation, at least in school. Terri once again entertained us by swallowing a nail. This was the year we showed our true selves. Randy s loose words to Mr. Long, Tammy, Pennv, and Cherie's ability to write signs, and all the other little things gained us the reputation we deserved. 10th grade went fast for the simple reason that there was more to do and to enjoy. The boy's basketball team went to the play-offs. This was the last year for Mrs. Niederriter and the first year for Mrs. Bayless. This was the year for our big popcorn sale, and Bob and Randall were up to their old tricks in lunch; chocolate milk and spaghetti don't mix. 11th was the year.for our prom, Stairway to Heaven . We were all very proud of it. The nicest thing was the arrival of our class rings. Yes, it was a great year. Well, we're finally up-to-date. The last 11 years were most of our life. What about this year? We were able to do the normal senior activities: sol- iciting, cap and gown measurments, receiving Varsity jackets, ordering and re- ceiving our announcements, working of the yearbook, and getting ready for our Washington Trip. The highlight will be graduation. For 12 years we've been waiting for this moment, the time to say good-bye. After the 9th of June, 44 students will all go on their seperate ways; yet, we will always be together. How can one day shatter 12 years of memories. It never will. On May 29, the Class or '77, held their prom, Stairway to Heaven. The gym was decorated with harps, stars, and a stair- case leading to Heaven. The colors were blue and yellow. At 10:00, Kim Van Nort and George Shaffer were crowned Queen, and King. The after-prom was held in the cafe- teria. There was a buffet of ham and other delicious foods served. The two movies that were shown, were: The 12 Chairs, and The Murders of the Rue Morgue. At about 5:00, everyone ate breakfast, and went home. Thus ending another mem- orable evening. On December 6, 1976, the East Forest Drama Club presented the musical Rock-N-Roll under the direction of Mrs. Deborah Dudt and Miss Norma Stahlman. Set in the 50's, this was the story of romance, sports, and music in an ordinary high school. Hoover High. How we looked way back then! WE CAN BEAT THEM! East Forest, like many schools in Northeastern United States, was closed for an extended period of time due to the energy crisis and excessive snow. Additional time was lost hy East Forest students when a 48 foot section of hallway in the East Forest elementary wing collapsed in the afternoon of February 5, 1977. An emergency crew of many Marienville residents showed up to help clear the area and inspect the real damage. The crew cleared the hallway of debris and helped shovel the snow off of the roof of the school. Philip Vollmer, a professional engineer from Harrisburg, investigated the undamaged sections of the building to determine whether the construction was similiar to that which had fallen in. School reopened in February 14 with the following changes: (1) Grades one, two, and the mixed first and second grade groups are having classes at the United Methodist Church. (2) Kindergarden is being housed in the room that was previously used for Special Education. AUTOGRAPHS W-: s ' - ' - % ' - ■ - • — _ • _ ■ - . v -. -V -s . r ■ J - -: .
