MARIEN THE 66 EDITOR: Cindy Silvis BUSINESS MANAGER: Jacquetta Griffith EDITOR: Kim Van Nort STUDENT PHOTOGRAPHER: Biff McDonald 2 TA3LE 0? CONTENTS OPENING SENIORS UNDERCLASS FACULTY SPORTS ACTIVITIES GRADES ADS CLOSING FORWARD There waa an enormous force which strengthened the colonies, which exists today, and which has carried America through its great history. That force is known to us all as the Spirit of 76 . We, the graduating class of East Forest High School, believe that this spirit still strengthens us today, and will continue to strengthen us for many tomorrows. What was that spirit, and indeed, what is that spirit? 3 It is a spirit of liberty and the knowledge that one man's freedom is more important than anything else on Earth. 6 7 8 It is the spirit of diversity-- of allowing every man his own view and his distinctive ways and of tolerating the differences of the society. 9 10 Indeed, the Spirit of 76 was, and is many things, each of which has been a building block of our national greatness. Our country grew on that spirit. « hen all else fails it is that spirit that will be there to guide us and keep us strong. 11 The Spirit of '76 has prevailed through much of our high school career. TTe have waited since first grade for this year. We have had much of the spirit that our forefathers had 200 years ago. Our generation has gone through wars, political disasters, inflation, and eco- nomic disasters. Through it all we have kept our spitit Our class truly has the SPIRIT OF '76. 12 Senior Class Officers Tinothy Eugene Chandler President Ceorge A. Three- eighths of the signers of the Constitution of 1787 were in their twenties and thirties. We often pay tribute to the bril- liance of the generation, but we overlook its youth- fulness . Sometimes, you've fallen on your face struggling for that American dream, your utopian expectations- but you keep getting up. You're aware of your con- tinual, internal prob- lems - but compared with any other country you've still the fairest, rich- est, and freest land of all. Three documents - the Dec- laration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights - signify the nature and goals of the American Revolution and provide a continuity to the American experience. 31 Juniors Lissie Nesbella - President Tammy Francis - Secretary Teresa Hepler - Vice President Randy Andring - Treasurer Sandy Andelmo Shawn Dyne Randy Andring Linda Burns Martha Covel Nate F.ck Terri Fielman Mary Fiscus 32 Tammy Francis Brenda Gadley Tom Gadley Brenda Gasbarree Penny Gaston Teresa Hepler Margaret Gregory Gail Henschel Tammi Harp Susan Hilyer Brenda Henry Newt Huffman Connie J°e Johnson Maschensic Betty Moore Kathy Mosley 3 3 Sue Motter Randall Parrett Ray Rudisill Joel Nesbella Tammy Pedder Amy Schmidt Cris Smrek Lissie Nesbella Penny 0'Donnell Bill Pfendler Louann Rourke Jim Shaffer Debbie Shipe Bob Snyder Rusty Stevenson 34 35 Sophomores Brenda Carbaugh - President Henry Gregory - Vice President Kim Hannan - Secretary Rosie Mazzocchi - Treasurer Brenda Terri Carbaugh Corbin Jerry Cussins Kim. But twelve years of hard work, experience, and fun have made 1976 the best year of all. The Spirit that we've had through the last twelve years has been kept alive by the memories that we've shared. In first grade our Spirit started with Jo crying and Neilia being all tied up. The Spirit si- lently built in second and third grades. In second grade we all re- member Sue Brown and in third grade we spent most of the year out in the hall. In fourth grade we remember Greg crying in Mr. Staley's room, Mrs. Lockhart's red teeth. In fifth grade Mr. Sands gave us our wooden Santa Claus, then in sixth grade we gave it to Kindergart- en. In sixth grade we published The Great Gazette and put on the play Tomboy and the Dragon . In this play, Dave Frost was the drag- on and Deb Barron was the Tomboy. In sixth grade we remember the glasses club and the time that our class went to Niagara Falls, and too, the bomb scare. Selling seeds and the spelling bees were also a part of our sixth grade. In Seventh grade, we took our class trip to Drake's Well and Crater Plastic. It was funny seeing Seventh grad- ers drinking out of baby bottles. Who can forget Andrews' bombs ? Or in Eight grade, his famous answer of El Moo on the Spanish final. We remember being the last Freshmen class to be initiated, especially the highlights, Arnold with his pig tail. Frost in his diaper say- ing HO, HO, HO , and Bobby getting his egg. shampoo. Now we know what happened to his hair. We also remember the bunny hop at our dance. Also in Ninth grade, we went to the Kinzua Dam and North War- ren, and the Spaghetti dinner. How about BR-5 9 and Mr.Newcomb. Selling popcorn and George and Mary Kay's birthday party at the CC camp happened in Tenth grade, and our dance with two groups. In our Junior year, George wore green sneakers which clashed with David Irwin's black face. During the same Chemistry experiment, George burnt his hair. Getting our class rings and the snowmobile races were thrilling events, also._Our basketball team also went to the play- offs .George came up .with another one, his portaDie typewriter. Then our blisters and sore feet after the Walk-A-Thon. Then the highlight of the year, our prom, Scheherezade, and how beautiful it was when we turned out the lights when we were done decorating. We ended the year with .picnic day at Loleta and our first Senior?? party. The senior girls started out the year with legs . Soliciting was the first on our list of many activities for the year. Then Senior pic- tures were next and then all of a sudden we were signing them and handing them out. Picking out announcements and getting measured for caps and gowns was something we didn't think we'd ever get done-thanks to Mr. Moore, we'll remember him! Senior dances, first and last, will always be remembered. Also, working on the yearbook and selling Christ- mas wrapping. One of the greatest things was ringing in our year, 1976. Yes, it has been one of the best years of all. Our exciting Washington trip, and finally June 3, 1976, our graduation . . . the end of our class memories, but the beginning of our lives. Spirit of ’76 Ester Regina Copstein, a 17 year old Senior, was our exchange student from Brazil. During her nine month stay here, she resided with the Reverend Trumbo family. Ester plans to go to a Chemical Engineering University after returning to Brazil. Bob Tinoco, also from Brazil, spent his nine months with the Ronald McDonald family. Bob, a Senior, took mainly science courses here at East Forest, because he plans to become a doctor. 97 Live each day like there is no tomorrow Live each hour like it's your last one Live each minute without sorrow For tomorrow has already begun 98 99 Row 1, (loft to right): ary Byers, Bl ir Hindman, Sieve Harp, Chris Seybert, hike Lisco, Eugene Byer , Victor Mnzzocchi, Bill Timmons, Mark IJichlns, Pat Gregory, ivicliaiu Jicnlas.
