Overcoming our shyness of the older students, we found the old school playground a virtual fountain of entertainment. Being exhuberant, we found recess the most challenging part of the day. We recall walking from the old school to the new to go to the cafe- teria, ana looking forward to the time we would move to the new school. Entering junior high, like all little urchins, we were confused with all the activity of changing class. We sponsored a theater party, skating party, and a swimming party. As notorious freshman, we fought the initiating seniors with tooth and nail. .We finally settled down to the drudgery of being underclassmen and proceeded with our education. We best remember our classes in the old library, study halls, and the fun of decorating for dances. Our junior year was extremely eventful. We began to realize how important our education was. We also scurried to complete our prepara- tions for the Boy-Girl Dance and the Senior Prom, Rhapsody in Blue. We gave our junior play, You Can’t Take It V ith You, ' in which we made our debut. Our anticipated senior year fulfilled all our expectations. With many seniors providing the scoring ability, we. East Forest, were able to tie for the U.A.V.L. baseball championship and easily won the League Basketball Championship by having an undefeated team, finishing the regular season with a 21-0 record. The senior play, Introducin’ Susan, under the able direction of Miss Carol Huffman, was presented on April 1U and 15. The play, a comedy, was enjoyed by all and proved to be a success. Our combined Commencement-Baccalaureate exercise was held on Friday, May 27, 1966, at 8:00 in the East Forest High School gymnasium. As we received our diplomas, we realized that we would be leaving our many friends and that we must take our first independent steps toward our individual goals. Grade School Teachers ii DEDICATION We, tne senior class of 1966, take great pleasure in dedicating our yearbook to Mrs. Shipe. When we began intermediate school, she guided us through the uncertain moments which always come as a result of adopting an unfamiliar way of life. Then she took the girls through Home Iconoraics classes, sponsored the ?HA Club, and taught us countless lessons of etiquette and life. Under the capable management of Mrs. Shipe, the fashion show which is annually staged for the Booster Club, has not decreased in elegance and good taste. We feel that, as senior class advisor, Mrs. Shipe has done an extraor- uinary job in aiding us to adulthood. For giving a great deal of herself to help us, we now thank her with all our hearts. J I The East Forest Junior-Senior Band, under the direction of Mr. Paul Rolin, gave its first performance to the student body as a part of the Christmas program. An additional performance was played for the Boosters. Their money-making projects for the year included a Christ- mas candy sale, the Snowball Dance, and Tag Day during hunting season. Another important event which everyone looks forward to each year is District Band. Pupils from the different schools in the district are selected by application to participate in the District Band. To be selected is a great honor since only the best from the schools are chosen. This year there were three selected from Fast Forest. They were Ilikki Ruhlman, Marjie Rey- nolds, and Peggy Wareham. ‘he most important event of the year was the annual Spring Concert. As always, this was one of the most successful events and one that was looked forward to the most by the students. Band Officers Nikki Ruhlman, Marjorie Reynolds, l’egj;y Iv'archan President: Xikki Pud 1 nan vice President: larjoric Reynolds Sec.-Troas.: Carol Cuss ins Senior High District STUDENT EXCHANGE RELATIONS Under the International Fellowship Program on the student level, James Moritz, a senior at F.ast Forest, spent the summer in Ecuador, the home coun- try of Nelson Idrove, East Forest's second Latin American Exchange student. Nelson spent the winter months in Marienville at the home of Mr. § Mrs. Karl P. Seiffert. On December 28, the alliance for understanding was again renewed with the arrival of Jorge Vizcarra from Lima, Peru. Born in Paris, France, this 16 year old son of a Peruvial army Colonel resided at the home of Mr. 5 Mrs. Herb Moritz of Marienville while attending East Forest High. Jorge hopes to further his education by studying electronical engineering in the United States and feels that his stay at East Forest will help him toward his ulti- mate goal as well as increase his understanding of what he calls the most advanced country of the world. When Jorge leaves the United States next spring, another student from East Forest will soon follow him South to continue the program that not only has made Spanish a real and meaningful course of study but is certain to have made immeasurable but strong and lasting contributions to search for World PC3C6 Left: Jorge Vizcarra Right: Jim Moritz 60 LATIN AMERICAN RELATIONS East Forest has endeavored to increase cultural understanding and empha- size speaking in the Modern Foreign Language Department by a unique exchange of teachers and students between East Forest and Latin America. Mr. Philip Wallace, Supervising Principal, initiated the program in 1963, with Miss Norhma Gomez of Colombia being elected as a cultural exchange teacher. She stressed the Audio-lingual approach of learning Spanish; the continued program has proven to be highly popular and educationally beneficial. Jose Gaviria, Medellin, Colombia, the first exchange student from Latin America, also helped stress the one-world concept of learning at East Forest. Miss Adiela Garcia, of Cali, Colombia, replaced Miss Gomez and is currently expanding and improving the Spanish program to the point where today a sequential program from grades h througi 12 is increasing the overall understanding. Miss Garcia, a supervisor in the Ministry of Education in Bogata, received special training at Penn State Uni- versity before corning to liar i envi lie from her native city of Cali, Colombia. By the use of television and by cutting her own question-answer type pro- grams on tape. Miss Garcia has kept student interest high. The introduction of Latin American music, aances , literature, and even comic books have all helped make the study of a foreign language meaningful and has developed a healthy interest in our neighbors to the south. The interest of foreign relations was expressed in 19 U when twenty high school students and five faculty members made a trip to Colombia. The entire group enjoyed the excitement of being in a foreign land, and the group also learned and matured finding themselves far from home and incapable of under- standing the conversation around them. The ability of many Colombians to speak English plus the kindness the group was shown made the trip one of the most memorable experiences of their lives. 61 CHORUS First Row, Left to Right: ilarjorie Reynolds, Janice McCanna, Vickie Irwin, Patti Johnson. To promote an increasing interest in the conservation of our natural resources and wildlife. 2. To promote sportsmanship among the members, and respect for the laws of our state concerning conservation and wild- life . 3. To create an interest in the sports of hunting and fishing for the purpose of recreation or pleasure, not as a game to test the abilities of a hunter or fisherman. Under the leadership of Mr. Long, Mr. Meese, and the Marien- ville Rod and Gun Club, the club undertakes the following projects: 1. A hunter's safety course in conjunction with the Pennsyl- vania Game Commission. 2. Qualification shoots following National Rifle Association rules. 3. Winter feeding of wildlife. U• Stocking fish in the spring, 5. Tree and shrubbery planting for wildlife protection. 6. Cooperate with and 8id the Marienville Rod and Gun Club in their projects, especially the Trout-Rearing Project. The Rifle and Conservation Club would also like to pay tribute •-r Stephen Nesbella, one of the founders of the club. His past efforts will always be appreciated and remembered. 66 Athletic Association The Athletic Association is composed of basketball players, baseball players, cheerleaders, and students who are eager to support the team. The club is sponsored by Mr. Kisko, athletic director, Mr. Meyers, basketball coach, and Mr. Staley, assistant coach. The officers are: Pres- ident, Ken Blvmiller; Vice President, Pat McClellan: and Secretary-Treasurer, Gail Snyder. Mention is also given to the faculty who helped with the projects and the parents who supported it. The purposes of the Athletic Association are to en- courage students to participate in athletics, give awards to those who have participated, and to raise funds to aid in financing athletic activities in our school. During the past year, the Athletic Association has sponsored such activities as the Donkey Basketball Game, the Christmas Tournament, dances, and bakesales. As a result of these projects, it has furnished new home uniforms, warm-up jack- ets, and blazers for the Varsity team. It has also helped with the financing of intramural programs. 67 1965 KING-QUEEN AND COURT 2ach year, the students look forward to a week of activities which is climaxed by the Boy-Girl Dance and the crowning of an hast Forest King and Queen. During the week the students participate in such activities as going to church on ounday, entering the poster contest, attending a family activity, homeroom and locker clean-up, and preparing a I'-'hol'. , board in their homerooms. Points are iven for ar- u.lcipation in these activities, and at the end of the week, the class that has accani- j-a-ved the most points is awarded the attendance banner.
