This year we have woven pot-holders in a variety of designs anrl colors. knotted lmelts from reel, while, and hlue macaroni cord, woven tiny lmaslcets from fine reerl, clesignerl yarn shoulder corsages for our favorite sweaters ancl suits, learned some of the lxasic crochet stitches hy making a pot-holder, and used some decorative stitches on fl draw string lmag. King, Bennett JUNIOR RED CROSS The Junior Red Cross is a hranch of the Senior Red Cross and their lunc- tions, Joe, are a direct loenefit to you. This year several drives have heen held to further the War effort. ln these they have collected tin cans, coat hangars, and fats: have made scraplooolcs and hed jaclcets for soldiers in hospitals and lcit longs llor overseas soldiers. They sent candles, tooth paste, playing cards, hoolcs, and wash cloth's to the Ellcins Maneuver Area. As a local service they had a Christmas party for the Childrens Shelter. This organization not only heneiits the school and the community, hut is a far-reaching laeneiit to our fighting men on all fronts. ln the national rnemher- ship drive the school was enrolled one hundred per cent. This year weyve lmeen hot on the trail ol war honds and stamps. Vvelve had good luclc with them, too. Vveyve had an auction this year to start oil with. Boh lxlinor was our auctioneer. Vve had several articles lor sale, Then we put on our annual show consisting ol corn, and corn . . . and corn. This year we had a pretty good show. Qur second auction was held January Qt. hlrs. l.inclley, our physics teacher, lmrought a chiclcen which topped the list ol articles. Vve got 5250.00 lor it. Some chiclcen. We hope you guys and gals in the service received our letters this winter. We got amhitious so we sat down and wrote letters lo hoys who were in the cluh in the past years. VX7e hope we didn't miss you. VVe worlced on a memorial tor the casualties ol our school honor roll. XVe hope to have a glass covered scroll to he placed in the hall and have the names ol boys who have given their lives lor us. Vveire hoping there will not he too many. It you were in the cluh when you were in high school, youlll rememher that every year there was a leed. This seems to pop up every twelve months. This time we had one lor the new memhers ol the cluh. It turned out real well. By the way, rememher when you were in school and the Hi-Y had their initiation, they used to malie the new memhers drinlc dish water and then wallc it oil? Well this year the rules have loeen changed. Also, in the past years hoys had to he elected in. Vvell, this year any hoy can get in the cluh hy merely aslcing to he in. Vve have tormal initiations now. l guess you might say that we are a little tamer now than they used to he. ll you are ever home on leave. drop down to Room ll and there you will see an honor roll ol all the former Hi-Y hoys who are now in the service.
