ty-t I 938 cross country front row-left to right-rudolph williams, captain henry helm ,jack rosenberger. back row-left to righteellsworth cain, gloy stalnaker, coach lewis, denver holcomb, clarence lynn. names according to picture. cross country I 938 the 1938 cross country team has had one of the most successful seasons that the runners have enjoyed since the sport was initiated as a competitive sport. wheeling territory was invaded to the tune of 18 to 37, only to run a close score at cannonsburg to take second place. traveling to newark, new jersey, to compete in the twelfth annual national cross country race on thanksgiving day, the bees crossed the finish line to retain the mason-dixon trophy. acting captain, henry clay helm, covered the two and one-half miles in 13:44 for seventeenth place at the newark meet. the other bees came in at positions to total 621 points. other members of the cross country team were clarence lynn, junior carpenter, gloy stalnaker, rudolph williams, ellsworth cain, jack rosenberger, denver holcomb, and glenn tallman. in the last tri-state meet at bethany the harriers took second place to capture new laurels and proved to be a most powerful unit in the athletic career of east fairmont. hopes for winning 1939 teams are darkened somewhat by the fact that henry helm, clarence lynn, ellsworth cain, denver holcomb and jack rosen- berger all are to graduate this spring.
