hi-y the hi-y club has as its purpose, the banding together of a group of purposeful older high school boys, who are seeking christian ideals, for themselves and the social group of which they are a part. they take for their aim: to create, maintain, and extend, throughout the school and the community, the high standards of christian characterf' the east fairmont hi-y is sponsored by mr. walter glenn, with mr. earl straight and mr. lloyd brown as assistant sponsors. the officers are: ellsworth cain, president, walter brown, vice- presidentg john carpenter, secretary, jack rosenberger, treasurerg goff rollins, sergeant-at-arms, and harry cronin, parlimentarian. among the varied activities of the year have been the group attendance at many of local churches, a mid-year spaghetti banquet at which dr. maxwell spoke, and the building of a new and more complete constitution. some other activities of the year were: the chapel program, an outstanding basketball team, and the best girl banquet. the grand climax of the activities for the year is the october steak roast, which all members look forward to annually. walter brown neale burner ellsworth cain jack carpenter junior carpenter kennith carpenter harry cronin john fawley marcellus fitzwater howard fleming forest gaskins clean speech clean sports clean living clean' scholarship hi-y members warren gross gard huff edward hughes charles johnson walter killian ralph linn clarence lynn denzil marks george may max rnoran william barne s morgan jimmie myers harley pyles goff rollins jack rosenberger eugene satterfiled jack smith lawrence smouse russell squires gloy stalnaker gall Watkins robert white Mty-live

latin club at the end of the year 1936-37, the old latin club was placed on a re- organized basis. it was renamed res publica romana which translated, means the roman republic. the heads of the roman republic were two consuls elected yearly, holding equal power. in this modern roman republic are also two consuls these preside over meetings of the senate, which is composed of all present and former officers of the group, now in school. the censor keeps the club rolls and records. the quaestors attend to all financial matters. the aediles plan programs and other activities. all of the above officials must have been in the club one year previous to taking office. all such members are known' as patricians. the tribune must be elected by and from the plebeians or students who are in the club for their first year. the tribune presides at all club meetings. the constitution is known as uduodecim tabulae or twelve tables. in every way possible the club is patterned after the ancient roman state. progress has been made this year and more will be made in the years to come.
