foreword that which is to come in this volume is the compiled works of the nineteen-hundred-and-thirty-eight orion staff, we present them for your consideration. when the sun peeped over the rim of the hill, on this, the land of the rising sun, last september thirteenth, there began another eventful term for east side high. we the orion staff have attempted to record these events for your pleasure in the years to come. for we believe the purpose of any year book is to be more or less an impersonal diary which you can pick up with a friend and review a year in school, recorded in picture and prose. we hope your record will be both an inspiration and a challenge. may you be able to say, i have done well, but i can do better. oliver Wendell holmes expresses the true intention of any year book. a health to our future-a sigh for our past, we love, we remember, we hope to the last: and for all the base lies the almanac's hold, while we've youth in our hearts, we can never grow old! -the editor.
