Due to the crowded building, the Seventh 51 Grade was separated, part in the elementary building under 'V Mr. Alva Bender and the other in the high school with Miss if Grace Henderson as adviser. Wilmer Heisey was awarded the Q medal of merit. if When the ship entered Eighth Grade, a new addition to Q the school awaited it. That year Nr. J. W. Bingeman became X 4 the new principal and introduced three courses--commercial, 1 agriculture, and general. The first May Day was presented F . w with Frances Fackler, queen. gi The next port was Ninth Grade. The school system be- kd came consolidated under the six-three-three plan and the U1 A name Maytown was changed to East Donegal Township. Soccer, li a new interscholastic sport,was introduced and found great ,Q favor with the boys of E. D. H. S. The high School oper- -3 etta,WTune Inn, under the direction of Mr. Willard D. Newton, is was a huge success. Several members of the Ninth Grade W participated in this musical. The second annual May Day, N il with Miriam Trostle as queen, had two representatives from ll the ne'er-do-well Freshman Class--Pauline Weiser and Martin if Barr. WThe horizon widens as we climbn was the mcttc V4 chosen by the class of 1941, the yellow tea rose the flower, 'QQ blue and gold the oloos colors. The highlight of the Yi term was the Promotion which graduated the class of 1941 if from Junior into Senior High School. The speakers for this Q A fe were Wilmer Heisey, Hazel Hixler, Mary Heisey, Calvin Smith, and Clayton White, Pauline and Galvin, the most outstanding S members of the class, were awarded gold medals. 3 MK All was not calm on the high seas for the Sophomores. 15 They found new responsibilities and interests and realized that high school was a new adventure. An interesting trip o taken during this term was a visit to the Armstrong Lino- leum Plant. The fall of 1958, field hockey for girls was V introduced. Several members of the class had leads in the , -X A I A A school operetta, WLantern Landn. Jean Huntzinger was the fl' S only tenth grade attendant to Queen Kathryn Houseal on May Day, however, several Sophomores danced the Minuet. , J A 4 The jolly Juniors, more accustomed to the busy high school life, sailed steadily onward. The science classes Q made a profitable visit to Franklin Institute. The E. D. V H. SENIOR CLASS HISTORY fC0nt'd.l winning the county championship, bringing this trophy to East Donegal for the first time. The class rings and pins were purchased this year. The May Queen was Kathleen Barbour and her Junior Attendants were Jean Huntzinger, Calvin Smith, Bertie Mumma, and Earl Koser. NThe Bandwagonn was presented May Day evening. The Juniors entertained the Seniors at a party and dance. The outstanding feature was Martin Barr's singing and characterizing WPlaymatesW. Homeward bound, the seamen were active. Five members of the class were elected to the National Honor Society. They were: Pauline Weiser, Wilmer Heisey, Calvin Smith, Mary Heisey, and Earl Koser. The Seniors visited the Lancaster Newspaper Building and County Court House. On board the East Donegal, NHold Everythingn held everyone in fun and laughter and NThe Gay Nineties Reviewn was a hit. WJeanieN was a pleasing summation of the operettas. June was the completion of a very profitable and active voyage for the Class of 1941. Mary R. There We go, so happy yet so sad, Grateful for the pleasures we have had, Loyal, honest, we will have no fears Throughout the coming years. Ship ahoy, we now have set a-sail, Our ship of life, and hope we'll ride the gale, If it sinks before we reach our goal, 'e'll do our best to reach the nearest shoal.
