S. Our guidance service actively seeks to secure the assistance of all who can The guidance program means many things to many people. ln the statements that follow, a point of view is presented in relation to a few of the many common issues that exist. The guidance program is a means of achieving the obiectives of education iust as the provision of a school plant is a means of achieving the obiectives of education. The guidance program primarily deals with student problems and special needs of many types not usually provided for in the every- day worli of the schoalg and procedures and techniques related to dealing with them successfully. Guidance services are designed to meet the needs of all youth. The counselor should be regarded as a resource person who is avail- able to parents, teachers. students, and others who may be con- cemed with the development and adjustment of individual pupils. The counselor deals with those individual cases where a high degree of specialized training is necessary which may be beyond the train- ing of the classroom teacher. aid our students in malcing satisfactory decisions. Counseling is the maior technique whereby the entire guidance pro- cedure is brought to a focus. All decisions in the process of counseling must be made by the pup- il. The counselor provides assistance and information as a basis for such self-decision and reorganization of experiences. Counseling never was intended to be detenninistic. The counselor and teacher complement each other with respect to occupational information. The maior emphasis of the counselor is that of aiding the individual to interpret pertinent occupational in- formation in tenns of his particular occupational problem. The building of a record system is an all-faculty iob. The home-roam is a valuable vehicle for the guidance program. It is a class-room situation where we teach those things we neglect to include in the regular curriculum. The home-room provides an understanding social atmosphere in which individuals can try out their ideas and obtain others' reac- tions to them. Guidance and curriculum, guidance and leaming, guidance and in- struction are inseparable parts of the educative process. -Q .QQ x-'ki if Carl Mortimer and George Salzala are talring the Flanagan Coordination Test to measure their ability to coordinate hand and arm movement, a necessary slzill in many occupations.
