It is a chronicle of times and of people. Its place is in the past-a reference file for the heartg a reminder to forgetful minds of days and of dreams of a unique and very special period in the high school person's life. These pages represent to you the pin point of time that is the present. Tomorrow these words and this book are past. And that is their purpose-to remain upon this spot, a marker and a reflection of your life-to stop in its tracks reality of present and preserve it for the backward glance of another day. This Antler is here with 19493 move on and where you will, we call time's bluff and wait for your return in company of memory. This cover is for dustg these pages for your tears of laughter and of sadness-it is yesterday. ? CHARLES L. D. JACQUES CHARLES C. DICKEY Q4 . ,. A LOUIS SARTI ,f WX' L my J . These men and Women have been instrumental in giving to the School District the leadership which has con- tributed to its growth not only in a material sense but in a spiritual sense as well. Member- ship on the Board is esteemed as an honorable distinction. It carries with it an obligation to promote the cause of education. RAYMOND MCCANDLESS ohm MRS. CLARENCE FISH DALE WALKER lngt picturecll JOHN PUGH BARTRAM MURRAY For: His friendliness . . . his love of youth . . . his devotion to duty . . . his promotion of a greater East Deer-Frazer school system. With: Profound respect for his high ideals . . . for his executive ability . . . for his personal achievements . . . We, the Class of 1949, dedicate this issue of THE ANTLER to our retiring Supervising Prin- cipal and friend . . . MR. JAMES EDWARD CLARK HAPPY BIRTHDAY ! YEARS OF SERVICE TO ouR COMMUNITY ,f 'Q R. JAMES E. CLARK Supervising Principal Members of the Class of 1949: Y You, the Class of 1949, have the honor of being the Hrst graduating class in the East Deer-Frazer Union School District. You have won first place in many activ- ities within the school, also. Your team has reached first place in football this year. Your homemaking class is the first class to use the recently acquired modern home making equipment. QA first class job of doing it, too.j You have the highest average in grades as aca- demic students, also the greatest number of academic subjects per pupil ever recorded in the high school. In personality you rank A plus. Your class has been noted for your courteous, respectful attitude toward your teachers. You are leaving pleasant memories be- hind you, both among teachers and underclassmen. You are the last class ever to have the privilege of being under the supervision of Mr. Clark. It is not nec- essary to remind you of the infiuence he has had in your lives, for you will have made many of his precepts yours. How fortunate you are! You are the last class to have Mr. Rometo for your football coach and for your class sponsor. In later years you will recall with pride that you were personally directed and taught by so fine a character. Yes, you are fortunate, indeed. You are leaving high school with glowing faces, kind hearts, inquiring minds, wearing the evidence of culture your years in high school have imprinted on you-all ready to begin to live. May the light in your eyes grow brighter, may your sympathetic attitude to- ward your fellow men deepen and grow with the years, and may your education become so broad that you will be the first to recognize your obligation to your fellow men and last to disregard the call of duty to yourself, your fellow men, and to God. Alleahenv Countv Schools GRADUATION Graduation . . . the future! Those are the words we have thought of for years. Those are the words which have carried all our hopes, all our dreams. Now they are no longer in the fu- ture-they are upon us. Graduation! What can this word mean to us now? Graduation closes a door on twelve years of what has suddenly be- come a cherished period of our lives. It tears us from a carefree existence and from friends and happiness and thrusts us into a world ablaze with post war economic uncertainty. Born on the fringe of the threadbare thirtiesg we have had to live with the experiences of the chaotic forties. We have seen our parents meet problems that seemed insuperable. We have their example of fortitude and courage, and we have twelve years of education which has pre- pared us to meet the exigencies of life. Shall we not take these factors and apply them with firm determination to the creation of a better world in the future? Let us resolve to do so. 3 5 2 E 2 ,, 3 I 'ae 'W 'V' 1 ?W'?'3'if'55f'4 Tv?-' D -T3 if 'R wb 1 2 ,.. if is ggfffgg Q S . in. THE FCRTY NINERS Hager! .Sf cf' Za,-A., 'Z' tl February llth. Their undaunted en- thusiasm, their desire to learn, the very element of their youth convince administrators and teachers alike of the worthiness of their life's profession. From the dewy-eyed youngster who enters a green seventh grader to the worldly wise freshman, hence to the befuddled junior-all alike are exposed to social, academic and leader- ship achievement. lnambition, ignorance, sheer lack of ability-all have been attributed to the underclassmen. But truthfully speaking we must acknowledge the tremendous contribution the underclassmen make year after year to high school life. WBWWQ wi W ig r - Q ,.,.. .A:. X W . VIRGINIA RECK 'INITIATIVE CLUB The Initiative Club is an organization to de- velop self-reliance and initiative in its members. This is .done by having the members conduct business meetings, plan interesting, as well as, instructive programs. This year the membership planned and completed many interesting and worthwhile projects. For a Christmas project the members deco- rated goblets and ash trays to give to their par- ents and friends. During January and Febru- ary they made their Christmas cards and val- entines into scrapbooks, which were given to the children's ward of the Citizens' General Hospital, New Kensington, Pennsylvania. For an Easter project the members made plaques from paper plates and other decora- tions that they gave to their parents and friends. Many of the friends used these for kitchen decoration: many remarked that these decora- tions added a note of cheer to their homes. This year has been the ITIOSI successful and in- structive year that the Initiative Cub has en- joyed since its organization. FRANCES E. JOHNSTON, Facuty 14a ui.ter. -we--.J,: 'Tr V .
